Abstract

Autonomous agents increasingly rely on external data to complete downstream tasks such as model training and decision support. However, existing data discovery systems remain largely retrieval-oriented: they surface candidate datasets from heterogeneous sources, but provide limited support for estimating task-specific utility, selecting cost-effective datasets under budget constraints, or incorporating trustworthy feedback from prior usage. This paper presents Guixu, a valuation-driven data discovery system for autonomous agents. Guixu employs a three-phase valuation pipeline with proxy-label propagation and multi-round knapsack optimization for task-aware data valuation. Guixu integrates agentic payment protocol to enable budget-constrained data procurement workflows. Guixu leverages on-chain data market and attestation signals for verifiable data discovery. Our demonstration highlights how Guixu enables an agent to move beyond keyword-based dataset retrieval toward task- and budget-aware, trustworthy data discovery and procurement. Attendees can interactively explore the full workflow, from NL task specification and multi-source search to data valuation and verifiable transaction feedback.

DataClawBench: An Agent Benchmark for Exploratory Real-World Financial Data Analysis

Autonomous data analysis agents are increasingly expected to conduct exploratory analysis with limited human guidance about data. However, existing benchmarks typically evaluate such agents in prior-guided settings, providing selected data sources, explicit data schemas, or cleaned data, thereby understating the exploratory burden. To evaluate this realistic exploratory data analysis task, we introduce DataClawBench, a benchmark built from financial think-tank consulting scenarios where agents must independently explore unfamiliar, noisy, cross-domain data and produce verifiable conclusions. DataClawBench provides a unified real-world data environment with approximately 2.06 million records across enterprise, industry, and policy domains, with native data noise preserved. On top of this data environment, it defines 492 multi-step cross-domain tasks, each annotated with intermediate milestones that diagnose exploration and reasoning failures beyond outcome accuracy. A systematic evaluation of eight advanced LLMs under the OpenClaw agent reveals that exploratory data analysis breaks agent reliability: more exploration does not reliably translate into task-relevant progress or correct final answers.

Data Agents: Agentic Data Systems

Traditional data systems face profound limitations in the AI era, relying on human-crafted pipelines, lacking semantic understanding of heterogeneous data, and operating through rigid, reactive processing. To address these challenges, we propose a new paradigm called the Data Agent, designed to manage, process, and analyze data with minimal human intervention. Data agents autonomously execute a wide range of data-related tasks, transforming traditional data systems by shifting from manual design to autonomous orchestration, from literal manipulation to semantic interpretation, and from reactive to proactive processing. Our Data Agent system includes six components: semantic data organization, semantic operators, agentic pipeline orchestration and optimization, feedback-driven refinement, memory management, and proactive adaptation. Building on this foundation, we also develop two specialized agents: the data analytics agent and the data science agent. Experiments on real benchmarks demonstrate significant performance gains of our data agent over state-of-the-art methods. We identify open challenges to guide future research in building fully autonomous data systems.

DataMaster: Data-Centric Autonomous AI Research

As model families, training recipes, and compute budgets become increasingly standardized, further gains in machine learning systems depend increasingly on data. Yet data engineering remains largely manual and ad hoc: practitioners repeatedly search for external datasets, adapt them to existing pipelines, validate candidate data through downstream training, and carry forward lessons from prior attempts. We study task-conditioned autonomous data engineering, where an autonomous agent improves a fixed learning algorithm by optimizing only the data side, including external data discovery, data selection and composition, cleaning and transformation. The goal is to obtain a stronger downstream solution while leaving the learning algorithm unchanged. To address the open-ended search space, branch-dependent refinement, and delayed validation inherent in autonomous data engineering, we propose DataMaster, a data-agent framework that integrates tree-structured search, shared candidate data, and cumulative memory. DataMaster consists of three key components: a DataTree that organizes alternative data-engineering branches, a shared Data Pool that stores discovered external data sources for reuse, and a Global Memory that records node outcomes, artifacts, and reusable findings. Together, these components allow the agent to discover candidate data, construct executable training inputs, evaluate them through downstream feedback, and carry useful evidence across branches. We evaluate DataMaster on two types of benchmarks, MLE-Bench Lite and PostTrainBench. On MLE-Bench Lite, it improves medal rate by 32.27% over the initial score; on PostTrainBench, it surpasses the instruct model on GPQA (31.02% vs 30.35%).
