Towards Expressive and Faithful Audio-to-Image Generation: A Unified Multimodal Dataset and Synthesis Framework

Abstract

As an important subfield of cross-modal generation, synthesizing static visual content in the form of images from audio, namely audio-to-image (A2I) generation, has attracted increasing research attention in recent years. Nevertheless, despite the remarkable visual quality of modern text-to-image (T2I) models, the performance of A2I remains fundamentally limited by traditional datasets, which often lack both high-fidelity images and precise cross-modal alignment. As a result, existing methods still struggle to achieve high-quality audio-to-image generation through finetuning strong T2I models, thereby constraining practical applications in this area. Motivated by this gap, we introduce A2I-Set, a unified, high-quality tri-modal dataset consisting of 323K paired audio, images, and detailed text captions, specifically designed for audio-visual research, including audio-conditioned image generation. Besides, we developed a new mixed-source test set for the A2I task through human supervision. We further propose an A2I model, AudioCanvas, fine-tuned on our A2I-Set. Experiments show that AudioCanvas achieves more visually expressive as well as cross-modal alignment results that generally outperforming existing approaches. AudioX-Turbo: A Unified Framework for Efficient Anything-to-Audio Generation

Audio and music generation based on flexible multimodal control signals is a widely applicable topic, with the following key challenges: 1) a unified multimodal modeling framework, 2) large-scale, high-quality training data, and 3) the prohibitive inference cost of multi-step diffusion sampling. As such, we propose AudioX-Turbo, a unified and efficient framework for anything-to-audio generation that integrates varied multimodal conditions (i.e., text, video, and audio signals) in this work. AudioX-Turbo follows a teacher-student paradigm. The teacher AudioX-Base is built on a Multimodal Diffusion Transformer with a Multimodal Adaptive Fusion module that aligns diverse multimodal inputs for high-fidelity synthesis, and is then distilled into the few-step student AudioX-Turbo via Distribution Matching Distillation adapted to flow matching, complemented by a diffusion-based discriminator for high-quality few-step generation. To support the training of AudioX-Turbo, we construct a large-scale, high-quality dataset, IF-caps-Pro, comprising approximately 9.2M samples curated through a two-stage data collection and annotation pipeline. We benchmark AudioX-Turbo across a wide range of tasks, finding that our model achieves superior performance, especially on text-to-audio and text-to-music generation, while operating at only 4 sampling steps and requiring approximately 25x fewer function evaluations (NFE) than multi-step baselines. These results demonstrate that our method is capable of audio generation under flexible multimodal control, showing efficient and powerful instruction-following capabilities. The code and datasets will be available at https://zeyuet.github.io/AudioX-Turbo/.

Dasheng AudioGen: A Unified Model for Generating Coherent Audio Scenes from Text

Audio generation has long been fragmented, with speech, music, and sound effects produced by domain-specific models that fail to jointly generate coherent audio scenes from a single description. The key obstacles are insufficient fine-grained supervision for real-world mixed audio and limited acoustic representations for modeling concurrent audio components. We present Dasheng AudioGen, a unified framework for generating general mixed-audio scenes from text. Dasheng AudioGen introduces structured multi-view captions, which explicitly decouple complex acoustic scenes into complementary description views, thereby enabling fine-grained control over audio layers. Furthermore, we employ a high-dimensional unified semantic-acoustic representation as the shared latent space. It injects semantic priors that facilitate cross-modal training convergence, while its high-dimensional feature space provides sufficient capacity to disentangle and fuse concurrent audio components effectively. With these designs, a simple flow-matching DiT achieves high-quality end-to-end audio scene generation. We also establish a comprehensive evaluation pipeline for audio scene generation. Experiments demonstrate that Dasheng AudioGen achieves performance approaching real-world recordings in mixed-audio categories, while remaining competitive with specialized models in single-type generation tasks. Visual Representation Matters: Exploiting Temporal Differences in Video-to-Audio Generation

Video-to-audio (V2A) generation extends image-to-audio generation (I2A) by introducing consecutive frames that provide essential temporal cues for audio synthesis. However, existing conditional diffusion-based V2A methods typically enhance visual conditioning with additional audio-visual supervision, acoustic structure prediction, or reasoning from large multimodal models, requiring extra networks or strong inductive biases. Inspired by recent advances in visual representation learning, we introduce TD-V2A, which leverages temporal differences (TD) as the key representation that distinguishes V2A from I2A, enriching visual conditioning with minimal architectural modification. We first investigate TD at both the frame and feature levels to identify the most effective representation level at which TD complements visual representations. Based on these findings, we develop a hierarchically continual learning strategy and an annealed temporal differences guidance method to progressively learn and exploit TD information during diffusion training and sampling process, respectively. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that effectively exploiting TD through our proposed framework significantly improves end-to-end V2A generation quality, even outperforming dedicated V2A representations such as contrastive audio-visual pretraining.
