Abstract

Autoregressive text-to-image generation has recently achieved remarkable progress, offering high-fidelity synthesis via a unified generative framework. However, fine-grained semantic control remains challenging due to the attribute entanglement and the misalignment between textual and fine-grained visual representations. In this paper, we introduce Attribute Token Arithmetic (ATA), a method that enables disentangled and continuous attribute control in visual autoregressive modelling. Inspired by the vector arithmetic property observed in word embeddings, ATA identifies semantic directions corresponding to visual attributes (e.g., aging, fatness, emotion) directly within the pretrained autoregressive latent space. These directions are learned from a single reference image, without model retraining or large-scale supervision. During generation, attributes can be continuously adjusted and compositionally combined through simple arithmetic operations with other attribute tokens. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ATA achieves identity-preserving, fine-grained, and multi-attribute adjustment, outperforming existing autoregressive editing baselines in controllability, generality, and computational efficiency. Our code will be available at https://github.com/Madaoer/ATA.

OmniGen-AR: AutoRegressive Any-to-Image Generation

Autoregressive (AR) models have demonstrated strong potential in visual generation, offering superior performance with simple architectures and optimization objectives. However, existing methods are typically limited to single-modality conditions, e.g., text, restricting their applicability in real-world scenarios that demand image synthesis from diverse controls. In this work, we present OmniGen-AR, a unified autoregressive framework for Any-to-Image generation. By discretizing various visual conditions through a shared visual tokenizer and text prompts with a text tokenizer, OmniGen-AR supports a broad spectrum of conditional inputs within a single model, including text (text-to-image generation), spatial signals (segmentation-to-image and depth-to-image), and visual context (image editing, frame prediction, and text-to-video generation). To mitigate the risk of information leakage from condition tokens to content tokens, we introduce Disentangled Causal Attention (DCA), which separates the full-sequence causal mask into condition causal attention and content causal attention. It serves as a training-time regularizer without affecting the standard next-token prediction during inference. With this design, OmniGen-AR achieves new state-of-the-art or at least competitive results across a range of benchmark, e.g., 0.63 on GenEval and 80.02 on VBench, demonstrating its effectiveness in flexible and high-fidelity visual generation.

End-to-End Autoregressive Image Generation with 1D Semantic Tokenizer

Autoregressive image modeling relies on visual tokenizers to compress images into compact latent representations. We design an end-to-end training pipeline that jointly optimizes reconstruction and generation, enabling direct supervision from generation results to the tokenizer. This contrasts with prior two-stage approaches that train tokenizers and generative models separately. We further investigate leveraging vision foundation models to improve 1D tokenizers for autoregressive modeling. Our autoregressive generative model achieves strong empirical results, including a state-of-the-art FID score of 1.48 without guidance on ImageNet 256x256 generation.

Residual Decoder Adapter: ID-Preserving Tokenizer Adaption for Autoregressive Text Rendering

Visual Autoregressive (AR) models generate images by predicting discrete tokens that are decoded by a visual tokenizer. Despite demonstrating strong overall image generation ability, they still underperform on text rendering with blur strokes and disrupt letter shapes. In this work, we trace this limitation to the visual tokenizer, which struggles to reconstruct fine-grained detail. Improving the tokenizer is straightforward but expensive, as it necessitates retraining both the tokenizer and the AR model. Can we improve text rendering performance of AR models without retraining the existing tokenizer and AR model? To achieve this, we propose the Residual Decoder Adapter(RDA) that upgrades an existing tokenizer post-hoc without changing its token space. Specifically, it refines the decoder output of the visual tokenizer by introducing two novel components: (i) a paired codebook that shares the token distribution with the original one; (ii) a parallel branch to learn the tiny differences (residual) between the reconstructed image and the ground-truth images in the pixel space. This residual design allows us to enhance the tokenizer non-invasively while preserving compatibility with prior AR models. RDA substantially improves text rendering significantly by a large margin. For instance, we boost finetuned Janus-Pro OCR accuracy rises from 24.52% to 58.26% (TextVisionBlend), from 12.75% to 36.81% (StyledTextSynth) on competitive TextAtlas benchmark.
