Reasoning-based reranking with Large Language Models (LLMs) has shown promising improvements in text ranking. However, current methods predominantly rely on a single reasoning trajectory, resulting in rankings that are susceptible to reasoning errors and inherently constrained in modeling the multifaceted signals underlying document relevance. To resolve this dilemma, we propose MERIT-Rank(Multi-perspective Evidence and Reasoning Integration for Text Reranking), a framework that models complementary reasoning trajectories to improve reranking robustness. MERIT-Rank formulates a Multi-Trajectory Reasoning Space (MTRS) that evaluates query-document relevance from multiple perspectives and introduces a joint reranker that consolidates these reasoning paths into a unified ranking decision. We further develop Progressive Rank Policy Optimization (PRPO), a progressive training framework that stabilizes reasoning trajectories while continually improving ranking quality through staged optimization objectives. Experiments on both reasoning-intensive and traditional retrieval benchmarks show that MERIT-Rank consistently achieves superior performance over competitive baselines. The 4B model notably outperforms most 7B and even 32B rerankers on BRIGHT.
Generative Large Language Models (LLMs) have revolutionized information retrieval, yet their strictly parametric nature frequently leads to severe factual hallucinations when confronted with complex queries beyond their epistemic boundaries. While external tool-calling can mitigate this, indiscriminately invoking search tools for every document during reranking incurs prohibitive latency overheads, creating an intractable accuracy-efficiency dilemma. To address this challenge, we propose TALRanker, a novel framework that formalizes pointwise relevance scoring as an agentic Markov decision process. We optimize it via a two-stage training paradigm. An initial warm-up utilizes a language-preserving hybrid loss to prevent the catastrophic forgetting of native generative capacities. Subsequently, an asymmetric cost-aware reward equipped in reinforcement learning forces the policy to autonomously bypass tools for maximum efficiency when confident, while selectively retrieving external evidence to avert severe hallucination penalties when uncertain. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that TALRanker achieves state-of-the-art performance across standard and reasoning-intensive retrieval benchmarks, matching throughput with pointwise rerankers while outperforming parameter-heavy reasoning models.
Recent studies increasingly explore Large Language Models (LLMs) as a new paradigm for recommendation systems due to their scalability and world knowledge. However, existing work has three key limitations: (1) most efforts focus on retrieval and ranking, while the reranking phase, critical for refining final recommendations, is largely overlooked; (2) LLMs are typically used in zero-shot or supervised fine-tuning settings, leaving their reasoning abilities, especially those enhanced through reinforcement learning (RL) and high-quality reasoning data, underexploited; (3) items are commonly represented by non-semantic IDs, creating major scalability challenges in industrial systems with billions of identifiers. To address these gaps, we propose the Generative Reasoning Reranker (GR2), an end-to-end framework with a three-stage training pipeline tailored for reranking. First, a pretrained LLM is mid-trained on semantic IDs encoded from non-semantic IDs via a tokenizer achieving ≥99% uniqueness. Next, a stronger larger-scale LLM generates high-quality reasoning traces through carefully designed prompting and rejection sampling, which are used for supervised fine-tuning to impart foundational reasoning skills. Finally, we apply Decoupled Clip and Dynamic sAmpling Policy Optimization (DAPO), enabling scalable RL supervision with verifiable rewards designed specifically for reranking. Experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate GR2's effectiveness: it surpasses the state-of-the-art OneRec-Think by 2.4% in Recall@5 and 1.3% in NDCG@5. Ablations confirm that advanced reasoning traces yield substantial gains across metrics. We further find that RL reward design is crucial in reranking: LLMs tend to exploit reward hacking by preserving item order, motivating conditional verifiable rewards to mitigate this behavior and optimize reranking performance.
In agent memory systems, the reranking model serves as the critical bridge connecting user queries with long-term memory. Most systems adopt the "retrieve-then-rerank" two-stage paradigm, but generic reranking models rely on semantic similarity matching and lack genuine reasoning capabilities, leading to a problem where recalled results are semantically highly relevant yet do not contain the key information needed to answer the question. This deficiency manifests in memory scenarios as three specific problems. First, relevance scores are miscalibrated, making threshold-based filtering difficult. Second, ranking degrades when facing temporal constraints, causal reasoning, and other complex queries. Third, the model cannot leverage dialogue context for semantic disambiguation. This report introduces MemReranker, a reranking model family (0.6B/4B) built on Qwen3-Reranker through multi-stage LLM knowledge distillation. Multi-teacher pairwise comparisons generate calibrated soft labels, BCE pointwise distillation establishes well-distributed scores, and InfoNCE contrastive learning enhances hard-sample discrimination. Training data combines general corpora with memory-specific multi-turn dialogue data covering temporal constraints, causal reasoning, and coreference resolution. On the memory retrieval benchmark, MemReranker-0.6B substantially outperforms BGE-Reranker and matches open-source 4B/8B models as well as GPT-4o-mini on key metrics. MemReranker-4B further achieves 0.737 MAP, with several metrics on par with Gemini-3-Flash, while maintaining inference latency at only 10--20% of large models. On finance and healthcare vertical-domain benchmarks, the models preserve generalization capabilities on par with mainstream large-parameter rerankers.
