Abstract

Dynamic endoscopic reconstruction is fundamental to robotic surgery and computer-assisted interventions. While 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) realises real-time rendering, its application to deformable intraoperative environments remains constrained by spurious geometry and varying illuminations. To address these limitations, we introduce EndoPrior-GS, a novel pipeline that explicitly couples frame-extracted vision heuristics and estimated depth maps. EndoPrior-GS derives a joint texture prior from a tool-filtered valid tissue mask, a non-specular photometric filter, and anatomical structural salience, yielding a probability map that guides primitive initialisation and subsequent density control. The prior is further extended to the temporal domain through a texture-aware term that dynamically weighs pairwise primitive contributions during training. We conduct extensive experiments on benchmark datasets EndoNeRF and SCARED, and the obtained results show that our method EndoPrior-GS reduces Flow Error by 27.7% and 25.8% over the representative approaches while preserving competitive rendering quality and real-time rendering speed. ExtraGS: Enhancing Endoscopic View Extrapolation via Diffusion-Guided 3D Gaussian Splatting

Robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery (MIS) critically depends on reliable endoscopic perception for navigation and safety. However, conventional endoscopes provide only a limited field of view, leaving large portions of the surrounding anatomy unobserved. Recent neural rendering approaches, such as Neural Radiance Fields and 3D Gaussian Splatting, enable novel view synthesis from endoscopic videos, but their reliance on sparse observations often leads to severe artifacts when extrapolating beyond the training trajectory. In this work, we propose ExtraGS, a framework for enhancing endoscopic view extrapolation through diffusion-guided 3D Gaussian Splatting. Starting from an initial reconstruction, we introduce an uncertainty-guided virtual camera sampling strategy to actively explore blind spots and maximize information gain. The rendered views from these sampled locations are refined using a diffusion model to recover plausible anatomical structures, producing pseudo-observations that guide further optimization. To prevent the generated content from degrading reliable regions, we adopt a confidence-weighted fine-tuning strategy when incorporating these pseudo-observations. Extensive experiments on multiple public endoscopic datasets demonstrate that ExtraGS significantly reduces extrapolation artifacts and achieves state-of-the-art performance in endoscopic novel view synthesis.

Endo-NeRF++: Uncertainty-Aware Neural Rendering with Multi-Resolution Hash Encoding for Dynamic Surgical Scene Reconstruction

Reconstructing dynamic surgical scenes is crucial for robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery; however, it continues to be difficult because of tissue deformation, occlusions, specular reflections, and restricted viewpoints. In this study, we introduce Endo-NeRF++, a neural rendering framework that accounts for uncertainty in the reconstruction of dynamic surgical scenes. Expanding on EndoNeRF, the suggested approach incorporates multi-resolution hash-grid encoding, temporal feature merging, and uncertainty-informed adaptive sampling to enhance reconstruction accuracy and temporal coherence in deformable endoscopic scenes. The multi-resolution hash-grid representation within the framework effectively captures both coarse and fine anatomical details, while temporal feature blending ensures stable reconstruction during tissue deformation and surgical tool occlusions. Additionally, uncertainty-driven adaptive sampling assigns more samples to uncertain areas to enhance rendering quality and geometric coherence. Experiments on robotic surgical video sequences demonstrate that the proposed uncertainty-guided adaptive sampling improves PSNR by up to 1.22dB (4.3%), increases SSIM by up to 5.3%, and reduces LPIPS by up to 55.1% compared with the EndoNeRF baseline.

EvoGS: Modeling Deformation Evolution for Dynamic Gaussian Splatting

Recent extensions of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enable real-time novel view synthesis in dynamic scenes by learning time-conditioned Gaussian deformations. However, existing MLP-based methods typically estimate deformations independently at each timestamp, making them less robust to large or abrupt motions. To address this issue, we propose \textbf{EvoGS}, a 3DGS-based dynamic reconstruction framework that models Gaussian deformation as a temporal evolution process. EvoGS maintains persistent deformation states for each Gaussian, extrapolates future states from historical deformation states, and corrects the predictions with MLP-derived observations. The correction is adaptively weighted using a temporal residual memory and evolution statistics such as deformation velocity and trajectory deviation. To further improve reconstruction quality, EvoGS introduces deformation-aware densification. Clone and split operations are performed along corrected deformation directions, while an uncertainty-aware strategy suppresses densification for Gaussians with unstable deformation histories. Experiments show that EvoGS improves dynamic novel view synthesis quality and achieves competitive performance across benchmarks.
