Abstract

Instance-billed serverless platforms charge for CPU and memory over the lifetime of a warm instance, making idle inference state a direct serving cost. We present billing-aware neural text-to-speech (TTS) serving on serverless CPUs, optimizing CPU-seconds and GB-seconds rather than throughput or latency alone. Conventional runtimes are poorly suited to this setting: per-request parallelism causes CPU contention under concurrency, while warm instances retain gigabytes of billable inference and page-cache state. We address these costs with request-sized concurrent inference, which bounds per-request CPU parallelism, and a reclaimable instance lifecycle, which releases inference state and page-cache memory after idle periods while retaining the server process and compile cache. On Kokoro-82M, our system achieves 2.71 audio-seconds per CPU-second versus 0.89 with ONNX Runtime defaults and reduces cost per audio-hour from 0.0631withPyTorchto0.0631 with PyTorch to 0.0153, a 4.1x reduction. Idle billed memory falls from 8.7 GB to 1.33 GB, while restoration reaches first audio in 2.2 s versus 7.7 s for a PyTorch cold start. Under bursty traffic, lifecycle reclamation is essential for translating inference efficiency into lower serverless cost.

Rewriting TTS Inference Economics: Lightning V2 on Tenstorrent Achieves 4x Lower Cost Than NVIDIA L40S

Text-to-Speech (TTS) models are significantly more numerically fragile than Large Language Models (LLMs) due to their continuous waveform generation and perceptual sensitivity to small numerical perturbations. While aggressive precision reduction techniques such as BlockFloat8 (BFP8) and low-fidelity (LoFi) compute have been widely adopted in language models, applying similar strategies to TTS systems often results in audible artifacts, phase instability, and spectral distortion. In this work, we present Lightning V2, a production-grade TTS model co-optimized for Tenstorrent hardware. Through precision-aware architectural design and hardware-software co-optimization, we achieve over 95% LoFi computational fidelity and more than 80% BlockFloat8 deployment without measurable degradation in audio quality. Leveraging Tenstorrent's Network-on-Chip (NoC), distributed SRAM, and deterministic execution model, we reduce memory movement and redundant weight fetches, enabling efficient low-precision inference. Compared to an NVIDIA L40S baseline, Lightning V2 achieves approximately 4x lower on-prem accelerator cost at equivalent throughput, while maintaining production audio fidelity. Our results demonstrate that precision co-design, combined with hardware-aware optimization, can fundamentally reshape the economics of real-time speech inference.

ServerlessT2I: Efficient Text-to-Image Workflow Serving on a Serverless Platform

Text-to-image (T2I) workflows are increasingly deployed on serverless platforms because users often compose customized workflows and invoke them intermittently. Existing platforms typically deploy each workflow as an opaque GPU function, provisioning, placing, and scaling all constituent models in the workflow together. This monolithic design obscures workflow structure, inflates scaling overhead, forces users to manage low-level GPU coordination, and limits fine-grained fairness in multi-tenant clusters. In this paper, we present ServerlessT2I, a serverless-native system that decomposes a T2I workflow into loosely coupled model functions that can be independently managed and scheduled. By explicitly managing individual model execution, ServerlessT2I enables per-model scaling, declarative workflow composition, transparent GPU-resident communication, and fairness-aware scheduling. To make this decomposition efficient, ServerlessT2I harvests slack GPU memory left idle by compute-bound T2I inference to build a data plane that reduces model loading and data communication overheads. \sys{} further introduces a fair scheduler for multi-tenant serving. Using production traces, ServerlessT2I sustains up to 2×\times higher request rates than existing T2I workflow serving systems with the same GPU budget; for a fixed request rate, it saves up to 3×\times GPU resources while satisfying service level objectives (SLOs).

TinyAudio: Compact and Efficient Text-to-Audio Generation for Low-Resource Deployment

Text-to-audio (TTA) generation has advanced rapidly in generation quality and instruction following. However, representative systems often require around a billion parameters, limiting deployment on resource-constrained devices. This paper introduces TinyAudio, a compact flow-matching-based TTA model for low-resource deployment. At its core, TinyAudio uses TA-DiT, a 35M single-stream flow-matching Transformer. TinyAudio also includes TA-CLAP, a 32M audio-aligned text encoder, and TA-VAE, whose 20M decoder reconstructs 44.1 kHz audio from compressed latents. TinyAudio has only 87M parameters in total, over 90% fewer than representative billion-parameter pipelines, and uses 0.48 GB peak GPU memory. TinyAudio achieves competitive generation quality on AudioCaps and TTA-Bench. We further introduce TinyAudio-MF, a MeanFlow-accelerated model that enables real-time generation with a four-core CPU quota. Our results demonstrate a practical quality-footprint trade-off for low-resource TTA deployment.
