Abstract

We present ChromaGS, a method for real-time, language-guided color editing of animatable 3D Gaussian head avatars. Given a trained animatable avatar, users can instantly modify the color of semantic regions through natural language, with edits applied at render time and no retraining required. Our key insight is to augment each Gaussian primitive with learned soft assignments to semantic regions and decompose colors into region-level base colors and Gaussian-level residuals. This decomposition enables coherent color transfer: modifying a region's base color propagates naturally through all associated Gaussians while preserving fine appearance details encoded in residuals. A two-stage language pipeline translates text instructions into target colors, supporting both absolute specifications and relative adjustments. Unlike generative editing methods that may introduce unintended modifications, our approach provides deterministic, precisely localized semantic control. Experiments demonstrate faithful appearance preservation and intuitive interaction across diverse subjects. Project page and code are available at: https://a-canela.github.io/chromags/

ManifoldSplat: Language-Guided Semantic Shape Editing of 3D Gaussian Head Avatars

High-fidelity 3D head avatars have reached near-photorealistic quality. While recent methods enable text-driven manipulation, they struggle to provide fine-grained localized control, often entangling features or lacking geometric consistency. Modifying geometry through natural language currently requires slow per-prompt optimization or compromises identity and rigging. We present ManifoldSplat, the first end-toend framework for language-guided semantic shape editing of animatable 3D Gaussian Splatting avatars reconstructed from monocular videos. By performing edits within the structured FLAME manifold rather than directly optimizing an unstructured Gaussian cloud, we strictly preserve identity and animation. We introduce DeltaRegion, a per-region disentangled Conditional Variational Autoencoder (CVAE) delivering feedforward shape deltas, alongside a refining stage to recover view-consistent details. ManifoldSplat reconstructs and edits an avatar in ~90 seconds on a consumer GPU, rendering at ~800 FPS. Extensive evaluations demonstrate our approach sets a new state-of-the-art in localized prompt alignment, geometric coherence, and identity preservation. Edit3DGS: Unified Framework for Dynamic Head Editing via 2D Instruction-Guided Diffusion and 3D Gaussian Splatting

We present Edit3DGS, a unified framework for dynamic 3D head editing that integrates 2D instruction-guided diffusion with 3D Gaussian splatting. Unlike prior approaches that separately address frame-based edits or static 3D reconstruction, our method couples semantic controllability in the image domain with photorealistic, temporally consistent 3D representations. Given an input video, editable facial regions are masked and modified using a text-conditioned diffusion model to support fine-grained operations such as expression transformation, attribute modification, and appearance refinement. The edited frames are then aggregated through 3D Gaussian splatting to produce a coherent, high-fidelity avatar that preserves both identity and motion dynamics. To enforce consistency, Edit3DGS incorporates multi-view batch editing and lightweight inpainting strategies that recover lost expressions across timesteps. Experimental results demonstrate that our framework enables controllable, artifact-free head editing with smooth temporal transitions, offering practical applications in virtual avatars, immersive communication, film production, and interactive media.

COSY: Compositional 3DGS Synthesis for Disentangled Human Head Editing

Recent 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) GANs for human heads synthesize and render photorealistic 3D models in real-time and offer a vast variety in identity and appearance. However, controlling specific semantic attributes such as hair color or glasses remains challenging, as edits in the entangled latent space often induce unintended changes in identity or appearance. Although there are several methods that aim to disentangle the latent space post training by estimating directions that only modify certain features, these methods cannot guarantee complete disentanglement and often require pre-trained classifiers. In our approach, we propose a new generator architecture that synthesizes components, such as hair, skin, glasses, and torso, completely independently. This allows for changing the latent vector for one region while keeping the remaining parts fixed. Further, we achieve this separation using only sparse information such as the hair or skin color, eliminating the requirement of segmentation masks or geometric priors, often seen in prior work. To ensure matching shape and lighting conditions during editing, we allow minimal shared information via context tokens between the independent generators. These tokens even allow us to control the shape and light, without any prior annotation. Compared to existing works on GAN-based generation and editing, our method shows better disentanglement, more precise editing control, and competitive visual quality.
