Abstract

User-generated audio collections frequently contain textual metadata such as titles, tags, and descriptions. Effectively leveraging these complementary fields requires accounting for both field het erogeneity and varying semantic relevance relative to the acoustic content. We propose FAM-Gate, a two-stage framework for metadata-enriched audio classification. In the first stage, field-aware metadata-view attention dynamically aggregates multiple metadata views using audio-guided weighting, explicit field-identity embeddings, a shared identity-initialized projection, and mean-anchored regularized aggregation. In the second stage, a prior-constrained vector gate performs bounded, dimension-wise fusion of audio and metadata representations centered around an acoustic prior. Ex periments on BSD10K, BSD35K, and FSD50K show consistent improvements in both hierarchical single-label and multi-label classification. Compared with matched random-view scalar-fusion base lines, FAM-Gate improves the hierarchical F-score by 2.53 and 5.72 percentage points on BSD10K and BSD35K, respectively, while increasing macro mAP and macro F1 by 5.07 and 10.25 percentage points on FSD50K.

A Multi-Branch Hierarchy-Aware Framework for Heterogeneous Audio Classification

This technical report describes our system for Task 1 of the DCASE 2026 Challenge, which aims to classify heterogeneous audio recordings according to the Broad Sound Taxonomy (BST). The task requires both accurate second-level prediction and consistency with the top-level taxonomy. Our system is built on CLAP-based audio-text representations and is improved along three strategies: expanding the training set with a filtered subset of BSD35k, enhancing acoustic modeling with feature-specific branches, and refining predictions using hierarchy-aware classifiers and KNN-based post-processing. Among the acoustic features considered, the log-STFT branch provides the strongest single-model performance. With KNN-based post-processing, our best single system achieves a hierarchical F1 score (Hier. F1) of 80.84% on the BSD10k-v1.2 set under the same evaluation protocol as the baseline. We further construct ensemble systems by combining models with complementary acoustic features and classification heads, achieving Hier. F1 scores of 81.25% and 81.18%, respectively.

MADS: A Multiview Acoustic Descriptor Set Beyond Standard Spectral Summaries

Dominant audio classification pipelines rely either on compact handcrafted summaries or on fixed time-frequency frontends such as log-mel representations prior to deep modeling. While highly successful, these representations do not explicitly expose the physical dynamics of the underlying sound-generating event. We introduce MADS (Multi-view Acoustic Descriptor Set), a compact 19-dimensional physics-informed descriptor set de- signed to capture complementary spectral, temporal, mechanical, and stochastic structure in audio signals. Rather than treating sound only as a spectral pattern, MADS encodes properties related to excitation, damping, periodicity, impulsiveness, and structural consistency within a unified multi-view representation. We evaluate MADS using standard classical machine learning models on ESC-10, ESC-50, and MSoS, and compare it against two conventional handcrafted baselines: a compact 26D MFCC- based baseline and an expanded 38D spectral-summary baseline. Across ESC-10 and ESC-50, MADS achieves the strongest peak results overall, reaching 81.00% and 52.78%, respectively, while using roughly half the dimensionality of the 38D baseline. On MSoS, MADS again delivers the strongest top-end performance, reaching 67.48%. These results establish MADS not merely as a competitive standalone descriptor set, but as the foundational descriptor layer of a broader acoustically grounded representation program for future frame-level and deep-learning-compatible audio modeling.

Unlocking Strong Supervision: A Data-Centric Study of General-Purpose Audio Pre-Training Methods

Current audio pre-training seeks to learn unified representations for broad audio understanding tasks, but it remains fragmented and is fundamentally bottlenecked by its reliance on weak, noisy, and scale-limited labels. Drawing lessons from vision's foundational pre-training blueprint, we argue that the audio field must first establish its own large-scale, strong supervision framework. We introduce a new data-centric pipeline that leverages a high-fidelity captioner to create SOTA-quality captions and the first Unified Tag System (UTS) that bridges speech, music, and environmental sounds. We then conduct a systematic comparative study of different pre-training objectives on these strong source data. Our experiments suggest that data quality and coverage are the primary drivers of performance, while the choice of objective dictates downstream task specialization.
