Abstract

Multimodal Diffusion Transformers (MM-DiTs) have recently emerged as a powerful framework for unified text-vision synthesis, surpassing traditional U-Net architectures in generative tasks. One key innovation lies in its Multimodal Self-Attention (MM-SA) interaction, where image and text tokens are concatenated and processed via self-attention. However, this mechanism poses significant challenges for editing, rendering conventional U-Net-based attention manipulation methods ineffective. To address this limitation, we propose QK-Edit, a training-free framework that exploits the unique attention dynamics of MM-DiTs for precise text-guided image and video editing. By introducing a novel query-key manipulation strategy, our method isolates and adjusts critical attention components to achieve an optimal balance between prompt fidelity and structural consistency. This enables seamless edits across various tasks, including object addition, object removal, object replacement, changing background, changing material, changing color, and style transformation. Notably, it can be easily implemented with feature replacement in inference. QK-Edit demonstrates superior editing performance on state-of-the-art models, such as FLUX and HunyuanVideo, effectively bridging the gap between generative power and editable flexibility in MM-DiTs, and paving the way for scalable multimodal content creation.

UniVideo: Unified Understanding, Generation, and Editing for Videos

Unified multimodal models have shown promising results in multimodal content generation and editing but remain largely limited to the image domain. In this work, we present UniVideo, a versatile framework that extends unified modeling to the video domain. UniVideo adopts a dual-stream design, combining a Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) for instruction understanding with a Multimodal DiT (MMDiT) for video generation. This design preserves the MLLM's original text generation capabilities, enables accurate interpretation of complex multimodal instructions, and maintains visual consistency in the generated content. Built on this architecture, UniVideo unifies diverse video generation and editing tasks under a single multimodal instruction paradigm and is jointly trained across them. Extensive experiments demonstrate that UniVideo matches or surpasses state-of-the-art task-specific baselines in text/image-to-video generation, in-context video generation and in-context video editing. Notably, the unified design of UniVideo enables two forms of generalization. First, UniVideo supports task composition, such as combining editing with style transfer, by integrating multiple capabilities within a single instruction. Second, even without explicit training on free-form video editing, UniVideo transfers its editing capability from large-scale image editing data to this setting, handling unseen instructions such as changing the environment or altering materials within a video. Beyond these core capabilities, UniVideo also supports visual-prompt-based video generation, where the MLLM interprets visual prompts and guides the MMDiT during synthesis. To foster future research, we released our model and code.

AttnRouter: Per-Category Attention Routing for Training-Free Image Editing on MMDiT

We study training-free image editing on Qwen-Image-Edit-2511, a 60-block multi-modal diffusion transformer (MMDiT) that concatenates noise and source-image tokens within a single attention stream. We make three contributions. (i) We introduce KVInject, a single-forward attention manipulation that alpha-blends source-half key/value projections into the noise-half within a localized layer/step band. KVInject is simpler than the classical two-pass MasaCtrl recipe and avoids the prompt-mismatch failure mode that disables MasaCtrl on MMDiT (composite score drops 31% versus baseline). (ii) We show that no single attention operation dominates across edit types, motivating AttnRouter, a per-category routing table that dispatches edits to the operation that best preserves source structure for that type. With ground-truth categories the router improves the CLIP-T+DINO-I composite by 6.4% over the editing baseline; an automatic CLIP zero-shot classifier closes 98% of this gap despite only 55% category accuracy. (iii) Through layer-, step-, and alpha-band ablations we localize the editing-effective attention sub-circuit: K/V injection in early denoising steps (S0-7) recovers nearly all of the gain of full-step injection, while injection in early (L0-15) or late (L45-60) layer bands fails to drive editing entirely; alpha in [0.3, 0.5] is a stable sweet spot. We also report negative results that highlight what does not transfer from the UNet folklore: simple K/V rescaling never beats baseline and aggressive variants collapse generation entirely (composite 0.084). We release code, pre-computed routing tables, and a 100-sample stratified subset of ImgEdit-Bench used in all ablations.

MMCORE: MultiModal COnnection with Representation Aligned Latent Embeddings

We present MMCORE, a unified framework designed for multimodal image generation and editing. MMCORE leverages a pre-trained Vision-Language Model (VLM) to predict semantic visual embeddings via learnable query tokens, which subsequently serve as conditioning signals for a diffusion model. This streamlined design effectively transfers the rich understanding and reasoning capabilities of VLMs into the visual generation process. By obviating the need for deep fusion between autoregressive and diffusion models or training from scratch, MMCORE significantly reduces computational overhead while maintaining high-fidelity synthesis. MMCORE seamlessly integrates text-to-image synthesis with interleaved image generation, demonstrating robust multimodal comprehension in complex scenarios such as spatial reasoning and visual grounding. Comprehensive evaluations indicate that MMCORE consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines across a broad spectrum of text-to-image and single/multi-image editing benchmarks.
