Annotation Projection

Annotation projection addresses the scarcity of labeled data in many languages for natural language processing tasks like named entity recognition. Current research focuses on improving the accuracy and efficiency of projecting annotations from high-resource languages (like English) to low-resource languages using techniques such as cross-lingual BERT models, text-to-text translation models, and "mark-then-translate" methods. These advancements significantly impact the development of NLP applications for diverse languages by enabling the creation of larger, multilingual training datasets with reduced manual annotation effort.
