Carotid Artery
The carotid artery, a major blood vessel supplying the brain, is a key focus in cardiovascular research due to its susceptibility to atherosclerosis. Current research emphasizes accurate and efficient segmentation and hemodynamic flow field estimation within the carotid artery, often employing deep learning architectures like U-Net and novel graph neural networks incorporating physics-based priors to improve model accuracy and reduce data requirements. These advancements, facilitated by imaging modalities such as 3D ultrasound and 4D flow MRI, aim to improve the diagnosis and management of carotid artery diseases, leading to more effective prevention and treatment strategies. The development of automated segmentation and analysis tools holds significant promise for standardizing clinical practice and improving patient outcomes.
