Concordance Index
The concordance index (C-index) is a statistical measure evaluating the discriminatory power of survival prediction models, primarily assessing how well a model ranks individuals based on their predicted risk of an event (e.g., death, disease recurrence). Current research focuses on improving C-index estimation and its application in diverse fields, including medical diagnosis and prognosis, utilizing various machine learning models such as ensemble methods, deep learning architectures (including those employing contrastive learning), and survival-specific algorithms like random survival forests. A better understanding and improved calculation of the C-index is crucial for developing more accurate and reliable predictive models across numerous scientific disciplines and for enhancing clinical decision-making in healthcare.
