Cultural Commonsense
Cultural commonsense research focuses on understanding how cultural context shapes common-sense reasoning and knowledge, particularly within the limitations and biases of large language models (LLMs). Current work investigates the performance discrepancies of LLMs across diverse cultures, employing various benchmark datasets and exploring methods to improve their cultural awareness, including techniques for knowledge acquisition and integration from diverse sources like Wikipedia and manual annotation. This research is crucial for developing more equitable and effective AI systems that avoid cultural biases and accurately reflect the global diversity of human experience, impacting fields ranging from cross-cultural communication to ethical AI development.
