Deep Brain Stimulation

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical technique primarily used to treat movement disorders like Parkinson's disease by delivering electrical impulses to specific brain regions. Current research focuses on improving DBS efficacy and safety through advancements in target localization using high-field MRI and deep learning algorithms for image segmentation, and the development of closed-loop adaptive DBS systems employing reinforcement learning and contextual multi-armed bandits to optimize stimulation parameters and reduce side effects. These improvements aim to enhance the precision and personalization of DBS therapy, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes and more efficient treatment strategies.
