LiDAR Panoptic Segmentation
LiDAR panoptic segmentation aims to comprehensively understand 3D scenes from LiDAR point clouds by simultaneously segmenting both individual objects (e.g., cars, pedestrians) and amorphous regions (e.g., roads, vegetation). Current research focuses on developing efficient and accurate models, often employing query-based methods, proposal-free architectures, or innovative clustering techniques to overcome challenges like handling varying object sizes and densities, and addressing the open-world problem of unseen object classes. This technology is crucial for autonomous driving and robotics, enabling safer and more robust scene understanding for navigation and decision-making.
