Mental Model

Mental models represent an individual's internal understanding of a system or concept, influencing how they interact with it. Current research focuses on understanding and leveraging mental models in human-AI interaction, particularly concerning the development of accurate mental models of AI agents' capabilities and limitations, and how these models affect trust and collaboration. This research utilizes various techniques, including large language models (LLMs) for simulating human responses and generating explanations, and fuzzy cognitive maps for eliciting and quantifying mental models. Improving our understanding of mental models has significant implications for designing more user-friendly and effective AI systems, as well as for enhancing human-AI teamwork and trust.
