Multiple Variably Valued Niche

Multiple variably valued niche research explores how diverse, unevenly rewarding environments influence behavior and adaptation, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence and evolutionary dynamics. Current research focuses on developing algorithms, such as those incorporating value-decomposition networks and fitness sharing, to enable agents to efficiently identify and exploit high-value niches within complex landscapes, overcoming the challenge of being distracted by less rewarding options. This work has implications for improving AI performance in diverse applications, as well as providing insights into ecological and evolutionary processes, such as niche construction and the dynamics of adaptable populations in heterogeneous environments.
