Fringe Platform
Fringe online platforms, characterized by minimal moderation and the proliferation of misinformation and extremist ideologies, are a growing area of research focusing on understanding their dynamics and impact. Current studies utilize machine learning techniques, such as random forest classification, to detect automated accounts (bots) amplifying harmful content and analyze how these platforms facilitate the spread of fringe narratives through selective content sharing and toxic communication styles. This research is crucial for developing effective strategies to mitigate the spread of misinformation and harmful behaviors, both within these platforms and through their spillover effects onto mainstream online spaces.
