Red Palm Weevil

The red palm weevil (RPW) is a devastating pest causing significant economic and environmental damage to palm trees globally. Current research focuses on developing early detection methods using advanced technologies like computer vision, deep learning (including models such as MobileNetV2, ResNet, and YOLOv8), and the Internet of Things (IoT), analyzing acoustic signals and remotely sensed data (e.g., vegetation indices) to identify infested trees. These efforts aim to improve monitoring and management strategies, leading to more effective and sustainable palm tree farming practices. The development of accurate and efficient detection systems holds significant promise for mitigating RPW infestations and protecting palm tree populations worldwide.
