Social Justice
Social justice research increasingly examines how technological advancements, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), exacerbate existing societal inequalities. Current investigations focus on algorithmic bias in AI systems, the disproportionate impact of AI on marginalized communities (e.g., through labor exploitation and surveillance), and the need for equitable access to resources like public transportation. Researchers are exploring optimization models and strategies to mitigate these inequities, aiming to develop AI and related technologies that promote fairness and inclusivity. This work has significant implications for policy, technology design, and the broader pursuit of a more just and equitable society.
