Structural Beauty
Research into "structural beauty" aims to quantify aesthetic appeal using computational methods, moving beyond subjective evaluations. Current approaches leverage recursive segmentation algorithms, analyzing image structures at multiple levels of detail to assess complexity and hierarchy, often showing strong correlation with human aesthetic judgments. This work contributes to explainable AI by providing transparent models for evaluating visual appeal and offers potential applications in fields like urban planning and design, where quantifying the "livingness" of spaces could inform decision-making. Furthermore, these computational models offer insights into the nature of visual perception and potentially inform broader theories of intelligence.
