Volumetric Video
Volumetric video aims to capture and reproduce dynamic 3D scenes, offering immersive viewing experiences beyond traditional 2D video. Current research focuses on efficient compression and streaming techniques, often employing neural radiance fields (NeRFs) or Gaussian splatting for representation, and exploring methods like hierarchical progressive coding and dynamic Gaussian models to reduce bandwidth requirements and improve real-time rendering on various devices, including mobile platforms. This field is significant for advancing immersive media, virtual and augmented reality applications, and potentially impacting medical imaging through improved 3D reconstruction from limited data.
