Compositional T2I Generation

T2I: Text-to-Image

Overview

Compositional text-to-image generation studies how models can depict all the parts of a prompt while binding each attribute and relationship to the correct object and region. Methods include attention and layout controls, personalized adapters, structured scene plans, and reasoning or verification loops that detect and repair errors; some improve generation through inference-time guidance, while others train with preference or reinforcement-learning rewards. Benchmarks such as GenEval and T2I-CompBench test object presence, counting, attribute binding, and spatial relations, with newer evaluations probing occlusion, long prompts, and complex layouts. Despite progress, crowded scenes and precise relations remain difficult, and a central tension is improving prompt faithfulness without sacrificing image quality, identity fidelity, or inference efficiency.

DEIG: Detail-Enhanced Instance Generation with Fine-Grained Semantic Control

Multi-Instance Generation has advanced significantly in spatial placement and attribute binding. However, existing approaches still face challenges in fine-grained semantic understanding, particularly when dealing with complex textual descriptions. To overcome these limitations, we propose DEIG, a novel framework for fine-grained and controllable multi-instance generation. DEIG integrates an Instance Detail Extractor (IDE) that transforms text encoder embeddings into compact, instance-aware representations, and a Detail Fusion Module (DFM) that applies instance-based masked attention to prevent attribute leakage across instances. These components enable DEIG to generate visually coherent multi-instance scenes that precisely match rich, localized textual descriptions. To support fine-grained supervision, we construct a high-quality dataset with detailed, compositional instance captions generated by VLMs. We also introduce DEIG-Bench, a new benchmark with region-level annotations and multi-attribute prompts for both humans and objects. Experiments demonstrate that DEIG consistently outperforms existing approaches across multiple benchmarks in spatial consistency, semantic accuracy, and compositional generalization. Moreover, DEIG functions as a plug-and-play module, making it easily integrable into standard diffusion-based pipelines.

Hierarchical Concept-to-Appearance Guidance for Multi-Subject Image Generation

Multi-subject image generation aims to synthesize images that faithfully preserve the identities of multiple reference subjects while following textual instructions. However, existing methods often suffer from identity inconsistency and limited compositional control, as they rely on diffusion models to implicitly associate text prompts with reference images. In this work, we propose Hierarchical Concept-to-Appearance Guidance (CAG), a framework that provides explicit, structured supervision from high-level concepts to fine-grained appearances. At the conceptual level, we introduce a VAE dropout training strategy that randomly omits reference VAE features, encouraging the model to rely more on robust semantic signals from a Visual Language Model (VLM) and thereby promoting consistent concept-level generation in the absence of complete appearance cues. At the appearance level, we integrate the VLM-derived correspondences into a correspondence-aware masked attention module within the Diffusion Transformer (DiT). This module restricts each text token to attend only to its matched reference regions, ensuring precise attribute binding and reliable multi-subject composition. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on the multi-subject image generation, substantially improving prompt following and subject consistency.

TexTailor: Inference-Time Textual Guidance Tailoring for Multimodal Diffusion Transformers

Recent breakthroughs of transformer-based diffusion models, particularly with Multimodal Diffusion Transformers (MMDiT) driven models like FLUX and Qwen Image, have facilitated thrilling experiences in visual generation. However, these models rely only on the interactions between textual conditions and visual features to produce semantically aligned images. Once the interactions fail to reflect the nuanced compositional structure of the prompt, the generated images might be unsatisfactory. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of how different blocks and their interactions with textual conditions is crucial for better understanding the intrinsic attributes and for enhancing their interactions accordingly to strengthen the prompts adherence. In this paper, we first develop a systematic pipeline to comprehensively investigate each block's functionality by removing, disabling, and enhancing textual hidden-states at corresponding blocks. Our analysis reveals that 1) semantic information appears in earlier blocks and finer details are rendered in later blocks, 2) removing specific blocks is usually less disruptive than disabling text conditions, and 3) enhancing textual conditions in selective blocks improves semantic attributes. Building on these observations, we propose \method, a novel inference-time method for tailoring block-wise textual guidance. Our approach not only improves text-image alignment but also enables a range of downstream applications, including precise editing and inference acceleration. Extensive experiments demonstrated that our method outperforms various baselines and remains flexible across text-to-image generation, image editing, and inference acceleration. Our method improves T2I-Combench from 56.92% to 63.00% and GenEval from 66.42% to 71.63% on SD3.5, without sacrificing synthesis quality.

Dynamic Image Prompt Adapter for Scalable Zero-shot Personalized Text-to-Image Generation

Personalized Text-to-Image (PT2I) generation aims to produce customized images based on reference images. A prominent interest pertains to the integration of an image prompt adapter to facilitate zero-shot PT2I without test-time fine-tuning. However, current methods grapple with three fundamental challenges: 1. the elusive equilibrium between Concept Preservation (CP) and Prompt Following (PF), 2. the difficulty in retaining fine-grained concept details in reference images, and 3. the restricted scalability to extend to multi-subject personalization. To tackle these challenges, we present Dynamic Image Prompt Adapter (DynaIP), a cutting-edge plugin to enhance the fine-grained concept fidelity, CP-PF balance, and subject scalability of state-of-the-art T2I multimodal diffusion transformers (MM-DiT) for PT2I generation. Our key finding is that MM-DiT inherently exhibit decoupling learning behavior when injecting reference image features into its dual branches via cross attentions. Based on this, we design an innovative Dynamic Decoupling Strategy that removes the interference of concept-agnostic information during inference, significantly enhancing the CP-PF balance and further bolstering the scalability of multi-subject compositions. Moreover, we identify the visual encoder as a key factor affecting fine-grained CP and reveal that the hierarchical features of commonly used CLIP can capture visual information at diverse granularity levels. Therefore, we introduce a novel Hierarchical Mixture-of-Experts Feature Fusion Module to fully leverage the hierarchical features of CLIP, remarkably elevating the fine-grained concept fidelity while also providing flexible control of visual granularity. Extensive experiments across single- and multi-subject PT2I tasks verify that our DynaIP outperforms existing approaches, while requiring only single-subject training datasets.

FreeFuse: Multi-Subject LoRA Fusion via Adaptive Token-Level Routing at Test Time

This paper proposes FreeFuse, a training-free framework for multi-subject text-to-image generation through automatic fusion of multiple subject LoRAs. In contrast to prior studies that focus on retraining LoRAs to alleviate feature conflicts, our analysis shows that spatially routing LoRA residuals to their intended semantic regions provides an effective mechanism for suppressing direct cross-region LoRA interference while preserving the base model's global contextual reasoning. Accordingly, we implement Adaptive Token-Level Routing during the inference phase. However, obtaining reliable routing regions remains challenging. Existing methods that rely on text-image latent association, such as raw cross-attention or concept-level similarity matching, often suffer from sparse activations, hole artifacts, and unstable localization when handling visually similar subjects, leading to incomplete or ambiguous subject masks. To address these issues, we introduce FreeFuseAttn, a mechanism that exploits the flow matching model's intrinsic semantic alignment to dynamically match subject-specific tokens to their corresponding spatial regions at early denoising timesteps, thereby bypassing the need for external segmentors. FreeFuse distinguishes itself through high practicality: it necessitates no additional training, model modifications, or user-defined spatial constraints. Users need only provide subject activation words to achieve seamless integration into standard workflows. Extensive experiments validate that FreeFuse outperforms existing approaches in both identity preservation and compositional fidelity. The project page is at: https://future-item.github.io/FreeFuse/.

Detail++: Training-Free Detail Enhancer for T2I Diffusion Models

Recent advances in text-to-image (T2I) generation have led to impressive visual results. However, these models still face significant challenges when handling complex prompt, particularly those involving multiple subjects with distinct attributes. Inspired by the human drawing process, which first outlines the composition and then incrementally adds details, we propose Detail++, a training-free framework that introduces a novel Progressive Detail Injection (PDI) strategy to address this limitation. Specifically, we decompose a complex prompt into a sequence of simplified sub-prompts, guiding the generation process in stages. This staged generation leverages the inherent layout-controlling capacity of self-attention to first ensure global composition, followed by precise refinement. To achieve accurate binding between attributes and corresponding subjects, we exploit cross-attention mechanisms and further introduce a Centroid Alignment Loss at test time to reduce binding noise and enhance attribute consistency. Extensive experiments on T2I-CompBench and a newly constructed style composition benchmark demonstrate that Detail++ significantly outperforms existing methods, particularly in scenarios involving multiple objects and complex stylistic conditions.

ISAC: Training-Free Instance-to-Semantic Attention Control for Multi-Instance Generation

Recent open-weight text-to-image (T2I) diffusion models still struggle with multi-instance prompts, often omitting or merging instances and mixing semantics among similar objects. We trace these failures to early denoising steps, before instance boundaries are reliably stabilized. Existing training-free guidance is largely driven by cross-attention or other token-conditioned semantic signals. Such guidance can separate concepts at the token level, but largely assumes that distinct instance regions have already emerged. In early denoising steps, it cannot reliably carve out these regions, so count failures and semantic mixing persist. By contrast, self-attention exposes class-agnostic instance layouts during early denoising. To exploit this asymmetry, we propose ISAC\textbf{ISAC} (I\textbf{I}nstance-to-S\textbf{S}emantic A\textbf{A}ttention C\textbf{C}ontrol), a training-free, model-agnostic objective that first stabilizes self-attention layouts and then binds cross-attention semantics within them, without fine-tuning or external vision models. Across T2I-CompBench, HRS-Bench, and our newly curated IntraCompBench, ISAC consistently outperforms prior training-free methods. Furthermore, ISAC enhances layout-to-image controllers by refining coarse, overlapping bounding boxes into dense instance masks. Code and IntraCompBench are available at https://shjo-april.github.io/ISAC.

TF-TI2I: Training-Free Text-and-Image-to-Image Generation via Multi-Modal Implicit-Context Learning in Text-to-Image Models

Text-and-Image-To-Image (TI2I), an extension of Text-To-Image (T2I), integrates image inputs with textual instructions to enhance image generation. Existing methods often partially utilize image inputs, focusing on specific elements like objects or styles, or they experience a decline in generation quality with complex, multi-image instructions. To overcome these challenges, we introduce Training-Free Text-and-Image-to-Image (TF-TI2I), which adapts cutting-edge T2I models such as SD3 without the need for additional training. Our method capitalizes on the MM-DiT architecture, in which we point out that textual tokens can implicitly learn visual information from vision tokens. We enhance this interaction by extracting a condensed visual representation from reference images, facilitating selective information sharing through Reference Contextual Masking -- this technique confines the usage of contextual tokens to instruction-relevant visual information. Additionally, our Winner-Takes-All module mitigates distribution shifts by prioritizing the most pertinent references for each vision token. Addressing the gap in TI2I evaluation, we also introduce the FG-TI2I Bench, a comprehensive benchmark tailored for TI2I and compatible with existing T2I methods. Our approach shows robust performance across various benchmarks, confirming its effectiveness in handling complex image-generation tasks.

PixelPonder: Dynamic Patch Adaptation for Enhanced Multi-Conditional Text-to-Image Generation

Recent advances in diffusion-based text-to-image generation have demonstrated promising results through visual condition control. However, existing ControlNet-like methods struggle with compositional visual conditioning - simultaneously preserving semantic fidelity across multiple heterogeneous control signals while maintaining high visual quality, where they employ separate control branches that often introduce conflicting guidance during the denoising process, leading to structural distortions and artifacts in generated images. To address this issue, we present PixelPonder, a novel unified control framework, which allows for effective control of multiple visual conditions under a single control structure. Specifically, we design a patch-level adaptive condition selection mechanism that dynamically prioritizes spatially relevant control signals at the sub-region level, enabling precise local guidance without global interference. Additionally, a time-aware control injection scheme is deployed to modulate condition influence according to denoising timesteps, progressively transitioning from structural preservation to texture refinement and fully utilizing the control information from different categories to promote more harmonious image generation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PixelPonder surpasses previous methods across different benchmark datasets, showing superior improvement in spatial alignment accuracy while maintaining high textual semantic consistency.
