Unlocking Zero-shot Potential of Semi-dense Image Matching via Gaussian Splatting

Authors: Juncheng ChenChao XuYanjun Cao

Abstract

Learning-based image matching critically depends on large-scale, diverse, and geometrically accurate training data. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables photorealistic novel-view synthesis and thus is attractive for data generation. However, its geometric inaccuracies and biased depth rendering currently prevent robust correspondence labeling. To address this, we introduce MatchGS, the first framework designed to systematically correct and leverage 3DGS for robust, zero-shot image matching. Our approach is twofold: (1) a geometrically-faithful data generation pipeline that refines 3DGS geometry to produce highly precise correspondence labels, enabling the synthesis of a vast and diverse range of viewpoints without compromising rendering fidelity; and (2) a 2D-3D representation alignment strategy that infuses 3DGS' explicit 3D knowledge into the 2D matcher, guiding 2D semi-dense matchers to learn viewpoint-invariant 3D representations. Our generated ground-truth correspondences reduce the epipolar error by up to 40 times compared to existing datasets, enable supervision under extreme viewpoint changes, and provide self-supervisory signals through Gaussian attributes. Consequently, state-of-the-art matchers trained solely on our data achieve significant zero-shot performance gains on public benchmarks, with improvements of up to 17.7%. Our work demonstrates that with proper geometric refinement, 3DGS can serve as a scalable, high-fidelity, and structurally-rich data source, paving the way for a new generation of robust zero-shot image matchers.

AnchorSplat: Fast and Structure Consistent Detail Synthesis for Gaussian Splatting

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a powerful representation for high-fidelity rendering. However, existing assets often suffer from quality bottlenecks such as missing details and texture noise. Prior attempts to enhance these assets via 2D image processing introduce multi-view inconsistencies and high computational costs. In this paper, we propose a novel 3D-native refinement paradigm named AnchorSplat. AnchorSplat is an end-to-end deep network operating directly on 3D structures, avoiding the expensive optimization overhead of traditional 3D-2D-3D pipelines. Crucially, AnchorSplat is a strictly source-free solution requiring no original multi-view images. Central to the proposed method is the Point Anchor Mechanism, which enforces geometric consistency via local offset constraints, mitigating ill-posed mapping and gradient confounding. Furthermore, AnchorSplat replaces iterative densification with a single-pass multiplication mechanism. To facilitate research, we construct 3DGS-SR, the first large-scale benchmark for this task. Experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art results on the 3DGS-SR dataset, with throughput up to 10510^5 times faster than optimization methods. Notably, AnchorSplat exhibits robust zero-shot generalization across diverse data distributions, including generative model outputs and real-world scans.

InfiniSplat: Implicit Gaussian Decoding for Large-Baseline Monocular View Synthesis

Single-image feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) aims to directly generate a renderable 3D scene representation from one input image, avoiding the cost of multi-view capture and per-scene optimization. However, existing methods are often constrained by a pixel-aligned representation, where Gaussians are predicted from fixed image-grid locations. Such pixel-aligned primitives can produce promising nearby-view renderings, but they remain weakly coupled to underlying scene surfaces and struggle to preserve coherent structures under large viewpoint shifts. We present InfiniSplat, a feed-forward single-image 3DGS framework that moves from a pixel-aligned representation toward a surface-aligned representation. InfiniSplat constructs this representation by first using geometry-guided sampling to place 2D supports according to depth-induced local surface structure, and then applying a query-conditioned implicit decoder to predict Gaussian attributes from the image features queried at these supports. By grounding support locations in geometry while decoupling Gaussian prediction from fixed pixel centers, InfiniSplat produces Gaussian layouts that better follow scene surfaces and reduce scattered primitives caused by grid discretization. Across multiple cross-dataset NVS evaluations, InfiniSplat achieves state-of-the-art performance compared with single-image feed-forward baselines, and demonstrates zero-shot generalization from Hypersim indoor synthetic training to complex open-world scenes. StereoGS: Sparse-View 3D Gaussian Splatting via Stereo Priors

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has achieved remarkable success in real-time novel view synthesis, yet it suffers from severe overfitting under sparse-view settings due to insufficient geometric constraints. While recent methods introduce monocular depth priors to mitigate this, they inherently struggle with scale ambiguity and cross-view inconsistency, leading to defective geometry. In this paper, we propose StereoGS, a novel sparse-view 3DGS framework that integrates stereo priors to establish reliable binocular consistency. Unlike scale-agnostic monocular constraints, StereoGS introduces a Stereo Depth Regularization by constructing virtual stereo pairs during optimization and leveraging a foundation stereo model to enforce absolute scale and binocular-consistent structures. To further suppress overfitting and eliminate redundant primitives, we design a Gradient-Aware Opacity Decay strategy that dynamically penalizes Gaussians based on their relative opacity gradient magnitudes. Combined with a Consistency-Aware Dense Initialization using zero-shot multi-view depth estimation, StereoGS effectively anchors primitives to accurate scene surfaces. Extensive experiments on LLFF, DTU, Mip-NeRF360, and Blender datasets demonstrate that StereoGS achieves state-of-the-art performance in sparse-view settings without incurring any additional inference overhead.
