Abstract

Full-stack multimodal interaction in real-time is a central goal in building intelligent embodied agents capable of natural, dynamic communication. However, existing systems are either limited to unimodal generation or suffer from degraded reasoning and poor cross-modal alignment, preventing coherent and perceptually grounded interactions. In this work, we introduce U-Mind, the first unified system for high-intelligence multimodal dialogue that supports real-time generation and jointly models language, speech, motion, and video synthesis within a single interactive loop. At its core, U-Mind implements a Unified Alignment and Reasoning Framework that addresses two key challenges: enhancing cross-modal synchronization via a segment-wise alignment strategy, and preserving reasoning abilities through Rehearsal-Driven Learning. During inference, U-Mind adopts a text-first decoding pipeline that performs internal chain-of-thought planning followed by temporally synchronized generation across modalities. To close the loop, we implement a real-time video rendering framework conditioned on pose and speech, enabling expressive and synchronized visual feedback. Extensive experiments demonstrate that U-Mind achieves state-of-the-art performance on a range of multimodal interaction tasks, including question answering, instruction following, and motion generation, paving the way toward intelligent, immersive conversational agents.

Aero Realtime: Fully Aligned Input-Output Streams for Low-Latency Streaming Multimodal Generation

Existing streaming multimodal models process observations incrementally but still follow a turn-based prefill-then-decode pattern, making them non-duplex: new observations cannot naturally enter an active generation stream. Proactive alternatives use micro-turn polling or external response gates, which fragment continuous interaction, decouple response timing from language generation, and complicate KV-cache-friendly serving. We introduce Aero Realtime, a 4B streaming multimodal model with a duplex architecture for realtime generation. Aero Realtime aligns video, audio, and textual output on a shared temporal grid, where each approximately 80-ms audio slot predicts either a lexical token or a silence token. This allows input and output to advance together, enabling one autoregressive objective to learn both when to respond and what to generate. During inference, Aero Realtime appends only the newest multimodal slot, carries forward the previous output state, and reuses the KV cache for efficient incremental execution. We further provide a complete training and serving recipe, including realtime QA construction, slot-aligned supervision, hardware-aware distributed training, and resumable inference. On four NVIDIA A6000 workstation GPUs, Aero Realtime maintains 84-ms median and 173-ms P95 processing lag over 20 minutes of a continuously streamed video, remaining within 200~ms of the source timeline. These results demonstrate the feasibility of fully aligned input-output modeling for duplex, proactive, and hardware-aligned multimodal interaction.

Uni-ViGU: Towards Unified Video Generation and Understanding via A Diffusion-Based Video Generator

Unified multimodal models integrating visual understanding and generation face a fundamental challenge: visual generation incurs substantially higher computational costs than understanding, particularly for video. This imbalance motivates us to invert the conventional paradigm: rather than extending understanding-centric MLLMs to support generation, we propose Uni-ViGU, a framework that unifies video generation and understanding by extending a video generator as the foundation. We introduce a unified flow method that performs continuous flow matching for video and discrete flow matching for text within a single process, enabling coherent multimodal generation. We further propose a modality-driven MoE-based framework that augments Transformer blocks with lightweight layers for text generation while preserving generative priors. To repurpose generation knowledge for understanding, we design a bidirectional training mechanism with two stages: Knowledge Recall reconstructs input prompts to leverage learned text-video correspondences, while Capability Refinement fine-tunes on detailed captions to establish discriminative shared representations. Experiments demonstrate that Uni-ViGU achieves competitive performance on both video generation and understanding, validating generation-centric architectures as a scalable path toward unified multimodal intelligence. LatentUMM: Dual Latent Alignment for Unified Multimodal Models

Unified multimodal models (UMMs) achieve strong performance in both understanding and generation by learning a shared latent space, yet they often exhibit functional inconsistency between these two capabilities. We observe that this issue does not stem from a lack of shared representations, but from the absence of explicit alignment between the transformations that map into and out of the latent space. As a result, generation and re-encoding can follow inconsistent trajectories, leading to semantic drift under modality transitions. In this work, we propose LatentUMM, a framework that constructs an enhanced shared latent space to explicitly align these transformations and improve cross-modal consistency. LatentUMM consists of two stages. First, dual latent alignment enforces consistency at both the modality and capacity levels: cross-modal alignment uses a stronger embedding model to impose structured cross-modal semantics, while dual capacity alignment enforces bidirectional consistency under generation and re-encoding. Second, latent dynamics stabilization improves robustness via stochastic latent rollouts and preference optimization, favoring trajectories that better preserve semantic consistency. Experiments show that LatentUMM consistently improves multimodal consistency across diverse architectures.
