Abstract

The emergence of generative AI is bringing about a significant transformation in knowledge management. Generative AI has the potential to address the limitations of conventional knowledge management systems, and it is increasingly being deployed in real-world settings with promising results. Related research is also expanding rapidly. However, much of this work focuses on research and practice related to the management of explicit knowledge. While fragmentary efforts have been made regarding the management of tacit knowledge using generative AI, the modeling and systematization that handle both tacit and explicit knowledge in an integrated manner remain insufficient. In this paper, we propose the "GenAI SECI" model as an updated version of the knowledge creation process (SECI) model, redesigned to leverage the capabilities of generative AI. A defining feature of the "GenAI SECI" model is the introduction of "Digital Fragmented Knowledge", a new concept that integrates explicit and tacit knowledge within cyberspace. Furthermore, a concrete system architecture for the proposed model is presented, along with a comparison with prior research models that share a similar problem awareness and objectives.

Vibe to Code: Elucidating Strategic Oscillation of Tacit Knowledge in Generative AI Design Workflows -- An Exploratory Qualitative Study

The rapid adoption of generative AI tools has created new literacy demands for designers who must verbalize tacit knowledge through natural language prompts. Yet the micro-level cognitive processes by which designers externalize implicit intentions during iterative AI dialogue remain underexplored. This exploratory qualitative study examined five expert designers (11-20 years UI/UX experience, M = 15.4 years) using think-aloud protocols. We identified "Strategic Oscillation" -- experts' intentional return to vague language (Vibe) after progressing toward operational specifications (Code), leveraging AI's probabilistic nature for creative exploration. We observed shifts from "instruction" to "consultation" mode, deep reflection triggered by semantic collisions, and one participant's disengagement revealing conceptual alignment as a tentative boundary condition. We propose the ECRT cycle (Expectation-Collision-Reflection-Transformation) operationalizing the SECI model's "externalization" phase for human-AI collaboration. These findings yield three design patterns for metacognitive support and position AI as a "probabilistic mirror" catalyzing tacit knowledge externalization.

Epistemology of Generative AI: The Geometry of Knowing

Generative AI presents an unprecedented challenge to our understanding of knowledge and its production. Unlike previous technological transformations, where engineering understanding preceded or accompanied deployment, generative AI operates through mechanisms whose epistemic character remains obscure, and without such understanding, its responsible integration into science, education, and institutional life cannot proceed on a principled basis. This paper argues that the missing account must begin with a paradigmatic break that has not yet received adequate philosophical attention. In the Turing-Shannon-von Neumann tradition, information enters the machine as encoded binary vectors, and semantics remains external to the process. Neural network architectures rupture this regime: symbolic input is instantly projected into a high-dimensional space where coordinates correspond to semantic parameters, transforming binary code into a position in a geometric space of meanings. It is this space that constitutes the active epistemic condition shaping generative production. Drawing on four structural properties of high-dimensional geometry concentration of measure, near-orthogonality, exponential directional capacity, and manifold regularity the paper develops an Indexical Epistemology of High-Dimensional Spaces. Building on Peirce semiotics and Papert constructionism, it reconceptualizes generative models as navigators of learned manifolds and proposes navigational knowledge as a third mode of knowledge production, distinct from both symbolic reasoning and statistical recombination.

Grounded Inference: Principles for Deterministically Encapsulated Generative Models

The incorporation of generative models into traditional computational systems presents both enormous opportunity and tremendous peril. Although many early adopters have realized these perils at great expense, the field still requires foundational frameworks to de-risk incorporation of AI into traditional systems. This manuscript establishes this foundation through the definition of four specific primitives of AI blended architecture, designed to enable deterministic encapsulation of probabilistic models. It further establishes two overarching anti-patterns broadly represented across industry to serve as warnings for engineers in this field. This framework was designed to enable successful integration of AI into traditional systems while providing a foundation upon which generative model providers could build the next generation of generative model interfaces.
