Abstract

Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision Language Models (VLMs) have shown impressive reasoning abilities, yet they struggle with spatial understanding and layout consistency when performing fine-grained visual editing. We introduce a Structured Reasoning framework that performs text-conditioned spatial layout editing via scene-graph reasoning. Given an input scene graph and a natural-language instruction, the model reasons over the graph to generate an updated scene graph that satisfies the text condition while maintaining spatial coherence. By explicitly guiding the reasoning process through structured relational representations, our approach improves both interpretability and control over spatial relationships. We evaluate our method on a new text-guided layout editing benchmark encompassing sorting, spatial alignment, and room-editing tasks. Our training paradigm yields an average 15% improvement in IoU and 25% reduction in center-distance error compared to Chain of Thought Fine-tuning (CoT-SFT) and vanilla GRPO baselines. Compared to SOTA zero-shot LLMs, our best models achieve up to 20% higher mIoU, demonstrating markedly improved spatial precision.

SG-Layout: Structured Scene Graph-Guided Layout Generation with LLMs

Understanding and generating spatially coherent layouts from natural language remains a fundamental yet challenging task for large language models (LLMs). Existing LLMs often struggle to capture explicit geometric relationships and structural dependencies between objects. To address this issue, we propose SG-Layout, a graph-guided layout generation framework that explicitly incorporates structured spatial knowledge into LLMs. SG-Layout follows a two-stage training paradigm: (1) a graph-language feature alignment stage, where a relational graph encoder and a projector are trained to map scene-graph embeddings into the LLM's linguistic space; and (2) an instruction tuning stage, where LoRA-based adapters enable efficient fine-tuning for instruction-driven layout generation while keeping the backbone frozen. We evaluate SG-Layout on image layout generation, indoor scene synthesis and robotic object rearrangement tasks. Experimental results show that SG-Layout improves spatial reasoning accuracy and geometric consistency over the compact open-source backbone, with particularly clear advantages in relation-dense and compositionally complex scenes. These results highlight the effectiveness of graph-structured feature alignment for enhancing controllable layout generation.

SpatialEdit: Benchmarking Fine-Grained Image Spatial Editing

Image spatial editing performs geometry-driven transformations, allowing precise control over object layout and camera viewpoints. Current models are insufficient for fine-grained spatial manipulations, motivating a dedicated assessment suite. Our contributions are listed: (i) We introduce SpatialEdit-Bench, a complete benchmark that evaluates spatial editing by jointly measuring perceptual plausibility and geometric fidelity via viewpoint reconstruction and framing analysis. (ii) To address the data bottleneck for scalable training, we construct SpatialEdit-500k, a synthetic dataset generated with a controllable Blender pipeline that renders objects across diverse backgrounds and systematic camera trajectories, providing precise ground-truth transformations for both object- and camera-centric operations. (iii) Building on this data, we develop SpatialEdit-16B, a baseline model for fine-grained spatial editing. Our method achieves competitive performance on general editing while substantially outperforming prior methods on spatial manipulation tasks. SpatialGuard: Harness-Guided Verifiable Spatial Reasoning for Text-to-Image Generation

Complex 3D spatial text to image generation requires models to convert natural language into stable visual geometry, not merely semantic appearance. Existing prompt-driven or layout-conditioned methods improve controllability, but often lack an optimizable and verifiable spatial intermediary before visual sampling. As a result, object relations, occlusion, visibility, and camera constraints can decay during multi-round generation. This paper presents SpatialGuard, a structured layout-guided framework for complex 3D spatial text-to-image generation. SpatialGuard parses prompts into image synthesis-oriented 3D layouts through a Spatial Layout Architect, realizes them as visual conditions and candidate images through a Visual Realizer, and uses a Visual Alignment Critic to validate consistency among prompt, layout, and image. To keep constraints stable across iterations, SpatialGuard introduces a Layout Harness that organizes rule constraints, tool invocation, shared knowledge, and feedback loops around the editable layout state. This design turns complex spatial generation from implicit prompt following into a verifiable process of planning, realization, validation, and repair. Comprehensive experiments show that SpatialGuard achieves state-of-the-art performance in complex 3D spatial layout generation and improves spatial faithfulness over existing text-to-image and layout control baselines.
