RetinexDualV2: Physically-Grounded Dual Retinex for Generalized UHD Image Restoration

Abstract

We propose RetinexDualV2, a unified, physically grounded dual-branch framework for diverse Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) image restoration. Unlike generic models, our method employs a Task-Specific Physical Grounding Module (TS-PGM) to extract degradation-aware priors (e.g., rain masks and dark channels). These explicitly guide a Retinex decomposition network via a novel Physical-Conditioned Multi-head Self-Attention (PC-MSA) mechanism, enabling robust reflection and illumination correction. This physical conditioning allows a single architecture to handle various complex degradations seamlessly, without task-specific structural modifications. RetinexDualV2 demonstrates exceptional generalizability, securing 4th place in the NTIRE 2026 Day and Night Raindrop Removal Challenge and 5th place in the Joint Noise Low-light Enhancement (JNLLIE) Challenge. Extensive experiments confirm the state-of-the-art performance and efficiency of our physically motivated approach. X-Restormer++: 1st Place Solution for the UG2+ CVPR 2026 All-Weather Restoration Challenge

In this work, we present our winning solution for the 8th UG2+ Challenge (CVPR 2026) Track 1: Image Restoration under All-weather Conditions. Our method is built upon the X-Restormer baseline, which captures both channel-wise global dependencies and spatially-local structural information through its dual-attention design (Multi-DConv Head Transposed Attention and Overlapping Cross-Attention), augmented with the spatially-adaptive input scaling mechanism from Restormer-Plus. We adopt a two-stage training strategy with dual-model ensemble inference. In the first stage, Model B is trained from scratch on a large-scale diverse dataset randomly sampled from the FoundIR training set (approximately 800 GB out of 4.84 TB), covering five degradation types: blur, haze, rain, snow, and composite conditions such as co-occurring rain and haze. In the second stage, Model A is fine-tuned on the WeatherStream dataset (rain and snow splits) using Model B's final checkpoint as pretrained initialization, enabling efficient domain adaptation with a substantially smaller dataset. To better preserve structural details during training, we propose a novel Gradient-Guided Edge-Aware (GGEA) Loss, which applies Sobel operators to the ground-truth image to construct a spatially adaptive weight map that assigns higher supervision to edge and high-frequency regions. This is incorporated alongside L1 and Multi-Scale SSIM losses in a unified training objective. At inference time, predictions from the two models are fused via a weighted average, out = 0.4 x outA + 0.6 x outB, where the higher weight assigned to Model B reflects its stronger generalization ability from large-scale pretraining. With these strategies, our proposed method successfully ranks 1st in the challenge.

Ultra-High-Definition Restoration Transformers with Correlation Matching Transformation

We propose UHDformer++, a general Transformer-based framework to solve numerous Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) image restoration tasks. UHDformer++ operates across 44 coordinated learning spaces: 1) a high-resolution space (HR) for multi-level feature extraction, 2) a low-resolution space (LR) for learning compact, representative features, 3) a super-resolution space (SR) for upsampling low-resolution features from SR, and 4) a low-high fusion and reconstruction space (LHFR) for final image restoration. Specifically, HR extracts multi-scale high-resolution features and fuses them with low-resolution cues to produce residual images, while LR distills complementary representations from HR to improve restoration quality. To supply LHFR with richer features, SR super-resolves LR outputs before fusion. We further introduce two modules to bridge the high- and low-resolution spaces. The Feature-Refined Correlation Matching Transformation (FR-CMT) module selects the top C/r (C denotes the number of channels; r≥1 controls the squeezing level)C/r~(C~\text{denotes the number of channels;~}r\geq1~\text{controls the squeezing level}), from the fusion between max- and mean-pooled high-resolution features to replace less informative channels in the low-resolution Transformer. The Adaptive Channel Modulator (ACM) adaptively recalibrates multi-scale high-resolution features, ensuring that only task-relevant information propagates to LR. Extensive experiments demonstrate that UHDformer++ reduces model parameters by at least 86% compared with recent state-of-the-art methods while achieving substantial performance gains across 55 UHD restoration tasks, including low-light image enhancement, dehazing, deblurring, deraining, and desnowing. From Zero to Detail: A Progressive Spectral Decoupling Paradigm for UHD Image Restoration with New Benchmark

Ultra-high-definition (UHD) image restoration poses unique challenges due to the high spatial resolution, diverse content, and fine-grained structures present in UHD images. To address these issues, we introduce a progressive spectral decomposition for the restoration process, decomposing it into three stages: zero-frequency enhancement, low-frequency restoration, and high-frequency refinement. Based on this formulation, we propose a novel framework, ERR, which integrates three cooperative sub-networks: the zero-frequency enhancer (ZFE), the low-frequency restorer (LFR), and the high-frequency refiner (HFR). The ZFE incorporates global priors to learn holistic mappings, the LFR reconstructs the main content by focusing on coarse-scale information, and the HFR adopts our proposed frequency-windowed Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (FW-KAN) to recover fine textures and intricate details for high-fidelity restoration. To further advance research in UHD image restoration, we also construct a large-scale, high-quality benchmark dataset, LSUHDIR, comprising 82{,}126 UHD images with diverse scenes and rich content. Our proposed methods demonstrate superior performance across a range of UHD image restoration tasks, and extensive ablation studies confirm the contribution and necessity of each module.
