Abstract

Driven by the advancement of 3D devices, stereo vision tasks including stereo matching and stereo conversion have emerged as a critical research frontier. Contemporary stereo vision backbones typically rely on either Monocular Depth Estimation models or general-purpose Pre-trained Vision Models. Crucially, these models are predominantly pretrained without explicit supervision of camera poses. Given that such geometric knowledge is indispensable for stereo vision, the absence of explicit spatial constraints constitutes a significant performance bottleneck for existing architectures. Recognizing that the Visual Geometry Grounded Transformer (VGGT) operates as a foundation model pre-trained on extensive 3D priors, including camera poses, we investigate its potential as a robust backbone for stereo vision tasks. Nevertheless, empirical results indicate that its direct application to stereo vision yields suboptimal performance. We observe that VGGT suffers from a more significant degradation of geometric details during feature extraction. Such characteristics conflict with the requirements of binocular stereo vision, thereby constraining its efficacy for relative tasks. To bridge this gap, we propose StereoVGGT, a feature backbone specifically tailored for stereo vision. By leveraging the frozen VGGT and introducing a training-free feature adjustment pipeline, we mitigate geometric degradation and harness the latent camera calibration knowledge embedded within the model. StereoVGGT-based stereo matching network achieved the 1st1^{st} rank among all published methods on the KITTI benchmark, validating that StereoVGGT serves as a highly effective backbone for stereo vision.

MLG-Stereo: ViT Based Stereo Matching with Multi-Stage Local-Global Enhancement

With the development of deep learning, ViT-based stereo matching methods have made significant progress due to their remarkable robustness and zero-shot ability. However, due to the limitations of ViTs in handling resolution sensitivity and their relative neglect of local information, the ability of ViT-based methods to predict details and handle arbitrary-resolution images is still weaker than that of CNN-based methods. To address these shortcomings, we propose MLG-Stereo, a systematic pipeline-level design that extends global modeling beyond the encoder stage. First, we propose a Multi-Granularity Feature Network to effectively balance global context and local geometric information, enabling comprehensive feature extraction from images of arbitrary resolution and bridging the gap between training and inference scales. Then, a Local-Global Cost Volume is constructed to capture both locally-correlated and global-aware matching information. Finally, a Local-Global Guided Recurrent Unit is introduced to iteratively optimize the disparity locally under the guidance of global information. Extensive experiments are conducted on multiple benchmark datasets, demonstrating that our MLG-Stereo exhibits highly competitive performance on the Middlebury and KITTI-2015 benchmarks compared to contemporaneous leading methods, and achieves outstanding results in the KITTI-2012 dataset.

LinStereo: Linear-Complexity Global Attention for Multi-Scale Iterative Stereo Matching

Existing Vision Foundation Model (VFM)-based iterative stereo pipelines under-exploit three information pathways: multi-scale backbone features are collapsed into single-level correlations, geometric priors remain untapped at initialization, and context propagates only locally. These gaps widen under degraded photometric cues, making underwater scenes a stringent generalization test. To address this, we propose LinStereo, built upon Depth Anything V3, whose core is a Position-Aware Linear Attention (PALA) module that replaces local recurrence with global aggregation at linear cost, propagating reliable estimates from well-matched regions into degraded areas while preserving disparity structure. PALA is made effective by two enabling components: Hierarchical Semantic Cost Volumes (HSCV), which supply scale-aligned correlations from the VFM feature hierarchy, and a Depth Prior Initialization (DPI) that converts monocular depth into a metrically calibrated warm start. LinStereo achieves state-of-the-art-level accuracy on standard benchmarks and strong cross-domain generalization, particularly on underwater scene where severe photometric degradation makes stereo matching particularly challenging, attaining the best overall accuracy with consistent gains 28% lower AbsRel on TartanAir-UW, 26% on SQUID, a real-world underwater dataset).

StereoDiffuer: Diffusion-based Progressive Geometry Modeling with Saliency Attention Perception for Stereo Matching

With the advance of deep neural networks, the quality of disparity maps obtained through stereo matching has steadily improved. However, existing stereo matching methods still struggle to preserve fine-grained geometric details, resulting in blurred edges and over-smoothed predictions in challenging regions. To address these limitations, we propose StereoDiffuer, an iterative diffusion-based stereo matching framework that explicitly models geometric details and progressively refines disparity estimates. The framework incorporates a Saliency Attention Perception (SAP) module to extract salient geometric cues, including object boundaries, thin structures, and sharp edges. Confidence-guided SAP features are combined with the initial disparity estimate to condition an iterative denoising diffusion process, which corrects residual disparity errors and restores geometric details suppressed during cost-volume regularization and upsampling. Experimental results on the Scene Flow and KITTI benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework and its competitive performance relative to the compared stereo matching methods.
