Abstract

3D indoor scene generation conditioned on short textual descriptions provides a promising avenue for interactive 3D environment construction without the need for labor-intensive layout specification. Despite recent progress in text-conditioned 3D scene generation, existing works suffer from poor physical plausibility and insufficient detail richness in such semantic condensation cases, largely due to their reliance on explicit semantic cues about compositional objects and their spatial relationships. This limitation highlights the need for enhanced 3D reasoning capabilities, particularly in terms of prior integration and spatial anchoring. Motivated by this, we propose SDesc3D, a short-text conditioned 3D indoor scene generation framework, that leverages multi-view structural priors and regional functionality implications to enable 3D layout reasoning under sparse textual guidance. Specifically, we introduce a Multi-view scene prior augmentation that enriches underspecified textual inputs with aggregated multi-view structural knowledge, shifting from inaccessible semantic relation cues to multi-view relational prior aggregation. Building on this, we design a Functionality-aware layout grounding, employing regional functionality grounding for implicit spatial anchors and conducting hierarchical layout reasoning to enhance scene organization and semantic plausibility. Furthermore, an Iterative reflection-rectification scheme is employed for progressive structural plausibility refinement via self-rectification. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms existing approaches on short-text conditioned 3D indoor scene generation. Code will be publicly available.

Scene Generation at Absolute Scale: Utilizing Semantic and Geometric Guidance From Text for Accurate and Interpretable 3D Indoor Scene Generation

We present GuidedSceneGen, a text-to-3D generation framework that produces metrically accurate, globally consistent, and semantically interpretable indoor scenes. Unlike prior text-driven methods that often suffer from geometric drift or scale ambiguity, our approach maintains an absolute world coordinate frame throughout the entire generation process. Starting from a textual scene description, we predict a global 3D layout encoding both semantic and geometric structure, which serves as a guiding proxy for downstream stages. A semantics- and depth-conditioned panoramic diffusion model then synthesizes 360° imagery aligned with the global layout, substantially improving spatial coherence. To explore unobserved regions, we employ a video diffusion model guided by optimized camera trajectories that balances coverage and collision avoidance, achieving up to 10x faster sampling compared to exhaustive path exploration. The generated views are fused using 3D Gaussian Splatting, yielding a consistent and fully navigable 3D scene in absolute scale. GuidedSceneGen enables accurate transfer of object poses and semantic labels from layout to reconstruction, and supports progressive scene expansion without re-alignment. Quantitative results and a user study demonstrate greater 3D consistency and layout plausibility compared to recent panoramic text-to-3D baselines.

ScenePilot: Grow-and-Repair Policy for Text-Driven 3D Indoor Scene Generation

Text-driven 3D indoor scene generation has advanced from dataset-bound layout modeling to open-vocabulary synthesis with large language and vision-language models. Yet existing methods remain limited: one-pass generators often yield geometrically invalid layouts, heavy post-hoc optimization is costly and unstable, and prompt-only planners lack reusable layout priors for functional grouping and object relations. We propose ScenePilot, a retrieval-augmented Grow-and-Repair framework that formulates scene generation as prior-guided incremental growth with learned rectification. Given a prompt, the Hierarchical Retrieval-Augmented Planning (HRAP) module retrieves room-, group-, and anchor-level layout priors to support functional group planning. A text-driven base generator then inserts object groups sequentially, while the Reinforcement Multimodal Repair (RMR) module performs lightweight local correction after each insertion and a final global repair after completion. To train this policy, we construct SceneReverse-17k, a repair-trajectory dataset built by perturbing high-quality 3D scenes in position, rotation, and scale, then using inverse operations as executable rectification targets. The policy predicts structured move--rotate--scale actions from rendered views, scene state, retrieved priors, and edit history. By combining HRAP with RMR, ScenePilot offers an efficient alternative to one-shot generation and heavy full-scene optimization, improving physical plausibility, functional coherence, and controllability while preserving diversity.

ThinkBLOX: 3D Indoor Scene Generation with Progressive Reasoning

While traditional graphics methods often synthesize 3D indoor scenes autoregressively or hierarchically, recent vision-language model (VLM)-based generators predominantly adopt a one-shot paradigm where the full layout is planned at once. This one-shot approach often requires global re-optimization or complete reconstruction during interactive editing (e.g., inserting or moving objects) and can lead to physically or semantically poorly organized arrangements. To address these challenges, we propose ThinkBLOX, a VLM-based progressive reasoning framework that iteratively designs and refines 3D scenes. ThinkBLOX treats layout generation as a state-conditioned, step-by-step reasoningand-action process. To power this, we construct the ThinkBLOX-Data-200K dataset, containing 224,757 procedural placement pairs annotated with multi-view scene context, explicit Chain-of-Thought (CoT) rationales, and structured JSON layouts. Through supervised fine-tuning (SFT) on this dataset, the VLM learns to bridge the reasoning-action gap under incremental updates. Furthermore, recognizing that scene synthesis is inherently a multisolution task where SFT suffers from reward conflict, we introduce Tier-Decoupled GDPO. This reinforcement learning scheme organizes heterogeneous rewards into distinct tiers, stabilizing policy optimization across physical validity, semantic plausibility, and reasoning-action consistency. Extensive experiments show that ThinkBLOX significantly outperforms recent one-shot and iterative baselines in physical plausibility, semantic alignment, and interactive editability. Additionally, we show that it supports diverse applications, including both global and local generation and rearrangement of 3D scenes.
