Abstract

Animatable 3D assets, defined as geometry equipped with an articulated skeleton and skinning weights, are fundamental to interactive graphics, embodied agents, and animation production. While recent 3D generative models can synthesize visually plausible shapes from images, the results are typically static. Obtaining usable rigs via post-hoc auto-rigging is brittle and often produces skeletons that are topologically inconsistent with the generated geometry. We present AniGen, a unified framework that directly generates animate-ready 3D assets conditioned on a single image. Our key insight is to represent shape, skeleton, and skinning as mutually consistent S3S^3 Fields (Shape, Skeleton, Skin) defined over a shared spatial domain. To enable the robust learning of these fields, we introduce two technical innovations: (i) a confidence-decaying skeleton field that explicitly handles the geometric ambiguity of bone prediction at Voronoi boundaries, and (ii) a dual skin feature field that decouples skinning weights from specific joint counts, allowing a fixed-architecture network to predict rigs of arbitrary complexity. Built upon a two-stage flow-matching pipeline, AniGen first synthesizes a sparse structural scaffold and then generates dense geometry and articulation in a structured latent space. Extensive experiments demonstrate that AniGen substantially outperforms state-of-the-art sequential baselines in rig validity and animation quality, generalizing effectively to in-the-wild images across diverse categories including animals, humanoids, and machinery. Rigel3D: Rig-aware Latents for Animation-Ready 3D Asset Generation

Recent 3D generative models can synthesize high-quality assets, but their outputs are typically static: they lack the skeletal rigs, joint hierarchies, and skinning weights required for animation. This limits their use in games, film, simulation, virtual agents, and embodied AI, where assets must not only look plausible but also move plausibly. We introduce Rigel3D, a generative method for animation-ready 3D assets represented as rigged meshes. Unlike post-hoc auto-rigging methods that attach rigs to completed shapes, our method jointly models geometry and rig structure through coupled surface and skeleton structured latent representations. A rig-aware autoencoder decodes these representations into mesh geometry, skeleton topology, joint coordinates, and skinning weights, while a two-stage latent generative model synthesizes both surface and skeleton representations for image-conditioned generation. To support downstream animation workflows, we further introduce an open-vocabulary joint labeling module that embeds generated joints into a shared vision-language space, enabling correspondence to arbitrary retargeting templates. Experiments on large-scale rigged asset datasets demonstrate that our method generates diverse, high-quality animation-ready assets and outperforms existing rigging baselines across multiple metrics.

UniMate: One Unified Model to Animate Diverse Skeletons

Recent advances in automatic rigging now deliver animation-ready 3D assets at scale, yet generating the motion to drive them remains a bottleneck. Existing learned animators are topology-constrained: they rely on category-specific templates or require per-skeleton fine-tuning and reference motions at inference. We present UniMate, a unified foundation model that synthesizes articulated motion for arbitrary skeletons from a rigged 3D asset and a text prompt, with no test-time optimization or per-skeleton retraining. UniMate introduces a topology-aware diffusion transformer, which integrates skeletal topology into attention via three mechanisms: (1) a graph-aware attention bias from pairwise joint relations and geodesic distances; (2) a spectral rotary position embedding generalizing RoPE to arbitrary kinematic trees via the graph Laplacian; and (3) a global topological conditioner attention-pooled from the rest-pose skeleton. We also curate UniML3D, 13,006 motion sequences spanning bipedal, quadrupedal, avian, marine, insectoid, serpentine, and articulated rigid objects with unified canonicalization and text pairing. Trained on this dataset, UniMate outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in quality, generalization, and efficiency, and supports zero-shot cross-topology transfer, in-betweening, expansion, and text-guided editing. SkelMo: Universal Skeletal Motion Generation for 3D Rigged Shapes

Motion generation for rigged shapes is vital for scalable 4D asset production. However, template-based methods are limited by specific topologies and fail to generalize across diverse morphologies. Conversely, per-case optimization is computationally expensive, susceptible to local optima, and highly sensitive to viewpoint-induced ambiguities. In this paper, we present SkelMo, a diffusion-based framework designed for category-agnostic skeletal animation generation from 2D video guidance. To overcome the scarcity of high-quality training data, we have curated a large-scale dynamic dataset comprising approximately 20,000 diverse 3D animations, each featuring complete textures, skeletal rigging, and a wide array of comprehensive animation sequences. To bridge the kinematic gap between 2D visual motion cues and heterogeneous 3D skeletal structures, we propose a structural-semantic injection mechanism. Our model integrates texture and semantic attributes directly into skeletal joint representations. This allows it to map perceived visual dynamics to specific joint hierarchies and their functional roles. This enables SkelMo to synthesize high-fidelity animations that maintain anatomical consistency across a vast range of unseen categories, from existing biological species to fantastical beings. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms existing methods, setting a new state-of-the-art benchmark for robust and efficient 4D asset generation.
