Abstract

Effective poster design requires rapidly capturing attention and clearly conveying messages. Inspired by the ``contrast effects'' principle, we propose ReContraster, the first training-free model to leverage regional contrast to make posters stand out. By emulating the cognitive behaviors of a poster designer, ReContraster introduces the compositional multi-agent system to identify elements, organize layout, and evaluate generated poster candidates. To further ensure harmonious transitions across region boundaries, ReContraster integrates the hybrid denoising strategy during the diffusion process. We additionally contribute a new benchmark dataset for comprehensive evaluation. Seven quantitative metrics and four user studies confirm its superiority over relevant state-of-the-art methods, producing visually striking and aesthetically appealing posters.

iPoster: Content-Aware Layout Generation for Interactive Poster Design via Graph-Enhanced Diffusion Models

We present iPoster, an interactive layout generation framework that empowers users to guide content-aware poster layout design by specifying flexible constraints. iPoster enables users to specify partial intentions within the intention module, such as element categories, sizes, positions, or coarse initial drafts. Then, the generation module instantly generates refined, context-sensitive layouts that faithfully respect these constraints. iPoster employs a unified graph-enhanced diffusion architecture that supports various design tasks under user-specified constraints. These constraints are enforced through masking strategies that precisely preserve user input at every denoising step. A cross content-aware attention module aligns generated elements with salient regions of the canvas, ensuring visual coherence. Extensive experiments show that iPoster not only achieves state-of-the-art layout quality, but offers a responsive and controllable framework for poster layout design with constraints.

Any2Poster: Any-Source Poster Generation Across Modalities and Domains

Visual posters are a compact medium for communicating dense information, yet progress on automatic poster generation remains difficult to measure because existing evaluations are often restricted to paper-only inputs, narrow domains, or surface-level visual similarity. We introduce Any2Poster Bench, a benchmark for any-source poster generation that evaluates systems across eight input modalities--PDFs, URLs, PPTX, DOCX, Markdown, LaTeX, notebooks, and videos--and five content domains. Any2Poster Bench pairs each source with quiz-based probes of verbatim factual retention and interpretive understanding, together with VLM-based judgments of visual quality, layout, readability, content completeness, and logical flow, enabling reproducible assessment of both information fidelity and visual communication. To instantiate and validate this benchmark, we further present Any2Poster Agent, an end-to-end reference agent that parses heterogeneous sources, organizes salient content, plans poster layouts, renders posters, and iteratively refines them using visual feedback. On Any2Poster Bench, Any2Poster Agent achieves 87.25% average accuracy across input modalities and 87.28% across content domains. On PaperQuiz-style evaluation, where prior paper-to-poster agents are directly comparable, Any2Poster Agent improves over PosterAgent-4o from 51.06-51.33% to 72.58% overall accuracy and from 116-121 to 145.16 in density-augmented score. Together, Any2Poster Bench and Any2Poster Agent provide a reusable evaluation resource and a competitive baseline for studying multimodal, domain-general poster generation.

PosterIQ: A Design Perspective Benchmark for Poster Understanding and Generation

We present PosterIQ, a design-driven benchmark for poster understanding and generation, annotated across composition structure, typographic hierarchy, and semantic intent. It includes 7,765 image-annotation instances and 822 generation prompts spanning real, professional, and synthetic cases. To bridge visual design cognition and generative modeling, we define tasks for layout parsing, text-image correspondence, typography/readability and font perception, design quality assessment, and controllable, composition-aware generation with metaphor. We evaluate state-of-the-art MLLMs and diffusion-based generators, finding persistent gaps in visual hierarchy, typographic semantics, saliency control, and intention communication; commercial models lead on high-level reasoning but act as insensitive automatic raters, while generators render text well yet struggle with composition-aware synthesis. Extensive analyses show PosterIQ is both a quantitative benchmark and a diagnostic tool for design reasoning, offering reproducible, task-specific metrics. We aim to catalyze models' creativity and integrate human-centred design principles into generative vision-language systems.
