Saturation-Aware Space-Variant Blind Image Deblurring

Authors: Muhammad Z. AlamLarry StetsiukArooba Zeshan

Abstract

This paper presents a novel saturation aware space variant blind image deblurring framework designed to address challenges posed by saturated pixels in deblurring under high dynamic range and low light conditions. The proposed approach effectively segments the image based on blur intensity and proximity to saturation, leveraging a pre estimated Light Spread Function to mitigate stray light effects. By accurately estimating the true radiance of saturated regions using the dark channel prior, our method enhances the deblurring process without introducing artifacts like ringing. Experimental evaluations on both synthetic and real world datasets demonstrate that the framework improves deblurring outcomes across various scenarios showcasing superior performance compared to state of the art saturation-aware and general purpose methods. This adaptability highlights the framework potential integration with existing and emerging blind image deblurring techniques.

CogSENet: Blind Image Deblurring with Blur-Conditioned Semantic Routing and Explicit Frequency Fusion

Blind image deblurring demands the recovery of high-fidelity details and coherent structures from complex, unknown degradations. Current blind image deblurring methods struggle with real-world, spatially varying degradations, and lack the semantic awareness necessary to reliably differentiate valid textures from artifacts. To bridge this gap, we propose CogSENet, a dynamic, semantic-aligned reconstruction framework inspired by the eagle's visual system. By mimicking the eagle's active saccadic scanning, we devise a Semantic-Driven State Space Module (SDSSM) with semantic-aware token regrouping via differentiable routing, enabling prompt-conditioned long-range dependency modeling. To ensure physically interpretable recovery of textures and structures, a BiFreqFusionBlock (BFFB) mirrors functional differentiation of the eagle's retina by decomposing features into high and low frequencies using wavelet transforms. Finally, we estimate a continuous Blur Field (CBF) from blur image and fuse it with CLIP semantic priors to modulate the deepest latent features, emulating focal adaptation and enabling adaptive restoration under spatially non-uniform blur. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CogSENetoutperforms state-of-the-art deblurring methods in both visual quality and structural fidelity with fewer parameters, while also performing favorably on dehazing, deraining, and denoising tasks.

Physen-Noise2Noise: Physics-Guided Self-Supervised Defocus Deblurring with Bias Correction under Low-Light Conditions

Low-light, long-exposure defocus deblurring remains a challenging problem due to the simultaneous presence of severe blur and complex biased noise. Existing methods typically rely on simplified noise assumptions, which limits their effectiveness under realistic imaging conditions. In this work, we propose Physen-Noise2Noise, a self-supervised deblurring framework guided by the physical model of defocus imaging, which leverages noisy multi-frame observations without requiring clean reference images. Unlike conventional Noise2Noise-based approaches that assume zero-mean noise, we derive a frequency-domain constraint inherent to the defocus imaging process and incorporate it into the learning framework via a learnable noise bias parameter. In addition, a multi-frame noisy initialization strategy is introduced to suppress complex biased noise prior to deblurring, providing a more stable starting point for reconstruction. This formulation explicitly models biased noise and enables joint bias correction and high-frequency detail recovery during training. Furthermore, we develop a pretrain-finetune variant to enhance robustness and generalization under challenging noise conditions. Extensive experiments on both simulation and real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art self-supervised approaches for defocus deblurring in the presence of complex biased noise.

FSM-Net: An Efficient Frequency-Spatial Network for Real-World Deblurring

Real-world image deblurring demands both high-fidelity restoration and computational efficiency, a balance existing methods often struggle to achieve. In this paper, we propose FSM-Net (Frequency-Spatial Multi-branch Network), a highly efficient solution that secured 2nd place in the NTIRE 2026 Challenge on Efficient Real-World Deblurring. FSM-Net pioneers a dual-domain approach: a novel Frequency Attention module explicitly recovers high-frequency structural details via FFT, while a Cross-Gated Vision E-Branchformer at the bottleneck captures global dependencies with linear complexity. To ensure robust convergence, we employ a progressive curriculum training strategy guided by a composite loss function (Multi-Scale Charbonnier, Structural Edge, and Frequency). Evaluated on the RSBlur benchmark, FSM-Net achieves an outstanding 33.144 dB PSNR with only 4.94M parameters and 159.35 GMACs (at 1920x1200 resolution). By effectively pushing the Pareto frontier of efficiency and quality, FSM-Net establishes a strong baseline for resource-constrained image restoration.
