Abstract

UAV-ground visual tracking (UGVT) aims to simultaneously track the same object from both the UAV and the ground view. However, existing two-stream methods suffer from isolated feature extraction and rely heavily on implicit appearance matching, which struggles to establish reliable correspondence under drastic view differences, leading to tracking unreliability. To address these limitations, we propose VL-UniTrack, a fully unified framework enhanced by visual-language prompts. By encoding features from both views within a single shared encoder, our method breaks the barrier of feature isolation to facilitate sufficient cross-view interaction. To overcome the ambiguity caused by relying solely on appearance matching, we design visual-language geometric prompting module, which fuses language descriptions with visual features to generate learnable prompts. These prompts are then fed into our prompt-guided cross-view adapter module to enable sufficient cross-view feature interaction and to guide the learning of view-specific feature representations. Furthermore, a confidence-modulated mutual distillation loss is proposed to regularize the training by mitigating noise propagation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on the latest benchmark. The code can be downloaded in https://github.com/xuboyue1999/VL-UniTrack.git

CosFly-VLA: A Spatially Aware Vision-Language-Action Model for UAV Tracking

Dynamic target tracking is essential for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) operating in complex urban environments, where both the target and the camera viewpoint change continuously. Existing Vision-Language-Action (VLA) policies can track visible targets effectively, but their performance often degrades when buildings, vegetation, or roadside objects block the line of sight. During sustained occlusion, a policy may lose the target state, execute actions toward an incorrect region, and amplify this error through subsequent observations until re-acquisition becomes impossible. To this end, we present CosFly-VLA, a spatially aware VLA model that jointly grounds the target, estimates its visibility, and generates continuous flight actions through a structured prediction interface. To train this policy, we use a large-scale recipe over diverse data sources. Spatially Grounded Continued Pretraining (CPT) on a 500k mixed pool injects UAV-view depth, distance, and 3-D spatial reasoning. A three-stage Curriculum-based Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) process then specializes the tracker through multi-head warm-up followed by two-stage curriculum learning over natural and hard / long-occlusion data. Chain-of-Thought (CoT) training subsequently teaches recovery-oriented reasoning traces before structured answers. Finally, a closed-loop Reinforcement Learning (RL) stage optimizes tracking behavior with a multi-component reward covering stand-off tracking, grounding quality, collision avoidance, and task success. Relative to OpenVLA, CosFly-VLA-0.8B reduces open-loop Average Displacement Error (ADE) by 34.1% on seen-test and 35.3% on unseen-test. Closed-loop optimization improves Success Rate (SR) by 29.8% and 2.5%, respectively. These results demonstrate progress from visible-frame imitation toward spatially grounded action-closed-loop control, evaluated under a shared oracle state history.

Dual-branch Distilled Transformer for Efficient Asymmetric UAV Tracking

Given the real-time demands of UAV tracking, many methods simplify the backbone to reduce computation, but this often weakens feature representation and degrades performance in complex scenarios. To alleviate this issue, we propose EATrack, an efficient and asymmetric UAV tracking framework centered around a teacher-guided dual-branch distillation strategy that enhances the feature expressiveness of the lightweight student model. Specifically, EATrack investigates two complementary perspectives of knowledge transfer: spatially focused feature-level distillation that compensates for weakened representations by guiding the student to learn strong target representations, and prediction-level distillation that enhances spatial localization by learning the teacher's capability for accurate target localization. Furthermore, to enhance robustness against appearance variations, we introduce a fine-grained target-aware distillation strategy that selectively transfers the teacher's target modeling capacity to the student. A temporal adaptation module is incorporated at inference to enhance robustness over time. Experiments on five UAV benchmarks demonstrate that EATrack achieves a favorable balance between accuracy and speed. Code: https://github.com/GXNU-ZhongLab/EATrack

GAAT: Geometry-Aware Alignment Transformer for Multimodal UAV Perception

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) multimodal perception integrates visible (RGB), infrared (IR), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and depth sensors for scene understanding under diverse conditions. However, differences in optics, resolution, and mounting often limit practical systems to global or image-center alignment. After tokenization, parallax, platform motion, and lens distortion can shift corresponding patch centers across modalities, weakening the spatial correspondence assumed by dense contrastive learning and cross-modal fusion. We propose GAAT (Geometry-Aware Alignment Transformer), an alignment-first pretrained model that estimates local correspondence reliability before cross-modal interaction. GAAT introduces syncPATC, which learns patch-center consistency under synchronized view transformations without correspondence annotations. It emits geometric priors, including token and query confidence, query centers, and sub-token offsets, that identify reliable local anchors across residual misalignment. Guided by these priors, MG-Sparse-MMA performs query-mediated sparse fusion over top-K_s reliable regions, replacing dense all-patch interaction with geometry-calibrated local updates. RA-QCGCL aligns pretraining supervision with this sparse query bottleneck through reliable patch-to-patch, patch-to-query, and query-to-query contrastive branches. We introduce UAVMeta and StateBench, which provide four acquisition-state scores derived from platform telemetry and image statistics: camera reliability, observation scale, viewpoint stability, and flight maneuver complexity. Extensive experiments across six downstream tasks demonstrate consistently superior transfer performance, establishing GAAT as a state-of-the-art multimodal foundation model for UAV perception. StateBench further enables a systematic diagnosis of real-world acquisition conditions.
