Abstract

In-the-wild 3D Gaussian Splatting remains challenging due to transient distractors and illumination-induced cross-view appearance inconsistencies. Existing methods mainly rely on image-level masking to suppress unreliable supervision, but masking alone cannot fully eliminate residual occlusions or resolve illumination-induced inconsistencies, both of which can introduce conflicting cross-view gradients. These unresolved conflicts may destabilize Gaussian optimization and lead to visible reconstruction artifacts. We propose a conflict-aware 3DGS framework that addresses this problem from both image-space supervision and gradient-level optimization. Semantic Consistency-Guided Masking learns pixel-wise consistency scores to adaptively refine prior masks and suppress unreliable supervision before gradient formation. A dual-view Conflict-Aware Gradient Harmonization strategy further reconciles view-specific gradients by mutually rotating them into an orthogonal configuration, reducing negative directional interference across views. We also introduce conflict-aware densification and pruning to stabilize Gaussian growth and remove persistently conflicting primitives. Extensive experiments on standard in-the-wild benchmarks demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art rendering quality under complex transient distractors and cross-view inconsistencies.

Softmax-GS: Generalized Gaussians Learning When to Blend or Bound

3D Gaussian Splatting (3D GS) is widely adopted for novel view synthesis due to its high training and rendering efficiency. However, its efficiency relies on the key assumption that Gaussians do not overlap in the 3D space, which leads to noticeable artifacts and view inconsistencies. In addition, the inherently diffuse boundaries of Gaussians hinder accurate reconstruction of sharp object edges. We propose Softmax-GS, a unified solution that addresses both the view-inconsistency and the diffuse-boundary problem by enforcing a softmax-based competition in overlapping regions between two Gaussians. With learnable parameters controlling the strength of the competition, it enables a continuous spectrum from smooth color blending to crisp, well-defined boundaries. Our formulation explicitly preserves order invariance for any two overlapping Gaussians and ensures that the output transmittance remains unchanged irrespective of the extent of overlapping, preventing undesirable discontinuities in the rendered output. Ablation experiments on simple geometries demonstrate the effectiveness of each component of Softmax-GS, and evaluations on real-world benchmarks show that it achieves state-of-the-art performance, improving both reconstruction quality and parameter efficiency.

Consistent Scene Understanding in 3D Gaussian Splatting via Multi-Cue Mask Refinement

Reliable instance-level scene understanding is a fundamental prerequisite for object-level interactions and high-fidelity 3D representations. While current methods often leverage 2D foundation segmentation models to obtain these priors, their 2D-centric design typically yields fragmented masks and inconsistent predictions across different views. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework that produces consistent 2D instance masks to guide the optimization of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) feature fields. Our framework consists of three main stages. (1) Multi-Cue Extraction that generates synergistic semantic, geometric, and structural priors from input images. (2) Multi-Cue-Guided Mask Merging process that consolidates fragmented masks using a composite merge score derived from semantic, depth, and edge cues. (3) Cross-View Mask Matching that establishes globally consistent identity assignments across all viewpoints. By transforming viewpoint-specific segments into coherent 3D primitives, our approach enables stable 3D instance segmentation and effective downstream editing tasks. Experiments demonstrate that our method significantly improves cross-view consistency and segmentation stability over existing baselines while maintaining high-fidelity photometric reconstruction.

TruncGradGS: Improved 3D Gaussian Splatting via Truncated Gradient Updates

3D Gaussian Splatting has become a de facto scene representation for novel view synthesis, yet robustly learning 3D Gaussian primitives from visual input remains challenging. Standard optimization relies on gradient-based updates, but a common issue is the gradient vanishing phenomenon: a pixel far from a Gaussian primitive often has diminishing gradient magnitudes to influence primitive attributes, resulting in suboptimal scene reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a method to address gradient vanishing with a piecewise truncated gradient formulation that improves the optimization stability and robustness to initializations. We show that our method consistently improves 3D Gaussian Splatting with random and COLMAP initializations while being generalizable across static and dynamic Gaussian Splatting. As a by-product, we also examine the limitations of current benchmarks for dynamic scenes, and introduce a novel dataset for benchmarking dynamic Gaussian Splatting using synthetic 3D scenes. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in both static and dynamic settings for the public benchmarks and our proposed dataset.
