Abstract

Vision-language-action models have advanced rapidly, but robot trajectories alone provide limited coverage for learning broad physical understanding. PhysBrain 1.0 studies a complementary route: converting large-scale human egocentric video into structured physical commonsense supervision before robot adaptation. Our data engine extracts scene elements, spatial dynamics, action execution, and depth-aware relations, then turns them into question-answer supervision for training PhysBrain VLMs. The resulting physical priors are further transferred to VLA policies through a capability-preserving and language-sensitive adaptation design. Across multimodal QA benchmarks and embodied control benchmarks, including ERQA, PhysBench, SimplerEnv-WidowX, LIBERO, and RoboCasa, PhysBrain 1.0 achieves SOTA results and shows especially strong out-of-domain performance on SimplerEnv. These results suggest that scaling physical commonsense from human interaction video can provide an effective bridge from multimodal understanding to robot action.

PhysBrain 1.5: From Vision-Language Models to Physical Foundation Models

We present PhysBrain 1.5, a unified model for understanding physical environments, generating actions, and predicting future states. Motivated by the physical loop of observation, interaction, and environmental change, we bring these capabilities into a common learning framework. Starting from a general vision--language model, we encode language responses, end-effector motion, and dense visual targets as discrete sequences and jointly optimize them with autoregressive next-token prediction. Pre-training draws its embodied supervision entirely from human interaction videos, using task-centered episodes to pair semantic and spatial context with recovered motion and subsequent observations. We then adapt the model through supervised fine-tuning on a mixture of human demonstrations, robot trajectories, and simulated experience. Across 28 embodied understanding benchmarks, our 8B model achieves an average score of 72.5, setting a new open-source state of the art and performing on par with leading proprietary models such as GPT-6-Astra and Gemini 3.6 Flash. It achieves the best open-source results on 14 benchmarks while retaining general multimodal capabilities. Beyond these understanding evaluations, qualitative examples show the model's ability to produce end-effector trajectories and predict future scenes through spatially aligned RGB, depth, and robot-mask outputs.

PhysVLA: Towards Physically-Grounded VLA for Embodied Robotic Manipulation

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models excel at mapping visual inputs and natural language instructions directly to robotic control policies. However, because they are trained primarily to fit behavioural demonstration data, they do not explicitly enforce fundamental physical principles such as rigid-body dynamics or contact constraints. This exposes a critical physics gap: standard temporal smoothing applied on top of single-step or chunked VLAs trades trajectory quality for added failures that short-term memory cannot resolve. To bridge this gap, we introduce PhysVLA (Physics-VLA), a plug-and-play, inference-time framework designed to wrap any frozen VLA backbone without retraining, fine-tuning, or weight access, with less than 1 ms of overhead per control step. PhysVLA intercepts the predicted control action, captures only the simulator or system state, and applies a dual-layered correction: (i) a phase-aware finite-state machine that structures discrete task segments (approach, grasp, transport, and place), and (ii) a selective Euler-Lagrange gate that activates only when a dynamics oracle detects kinodynamic inconsistency. Evaluated across OpenVLA, OpenVLA-OFT, Force-VLA, and Generalist-VLA on LIBERO-Spatial with a 7-DoF Franka Panda, the framework delivers absolute success rate increases of up to 17% and stability increases of up to 19% with no per-task regressions, improves trajectory efficiency by up to 15% across all four backbones, and shows up to a 10x improvement in trajectory jerk robustness on a Robosuite Lift cross-simulator sweep. We further validate the framework on a real Agilex Piper arm with a pick-and-place task, confirming that PhysVLA transfers to physical hardware without retraining, with success-rate improvements of up to 50%, establishing physical awareness as a composable, backbone-agnostic runtime module.

PhysMind: From Video to Executable Worlds for Training-Free Physical Reasoning

Reliable physical reasoning from video requires understanding how objects move, interact, and respond to interventions. Existing vision-language models (VLMs) often struggle to interpret these dynamics and reason reliably about future and counterfactual outcomes. We introduce PhysMind, a training-free agentic framework that constructs one reusable, question-agnostic executable world per video. PhysMind recovers a temporally consistent dynamic scene through object segmentation, mesh reconstruction, and 6D pose tracking, then fits analytic continuous-time dynamics and latent physical parameters without unrolling a time-stepped simulator. Given a question, it inspects, continues, or edits the world and answers from the resulting trajectories and interactions. Relative to direct chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning with the same VLM, PhysMind improves accuracy by 38.23 points on CLEVRER and 8.08 points on Physion++. On counterfactual questions, it exceeds the strongest evaluated VLM baseline, GPT-5.5, by 19.25 points.
