Abstract

Open-Vocabulary Object Detection (OVD) models break the limitations of closed-set detection, enabling the identification of unseen categories through natural language prompts. However, they exhibit notable limitations in fine-grained detection tasks involving attributes like color, material, and texture. We attribute this performance bottleneck in OVD models to a core issue: when category signals dominate, OVD models tend to marginalize attribute information during inference. This leads to incorrect binding between attributes and target objects. To address this, we propose the Dual-Stage Attribute Activation (DSAA) framework, which enhances fine-grained detection capabilities by strengthening attribute semantics at two critical stages. In the text embedding stage, we employ Attribute Prefix Adapter (APA) module to generate attribute prefixes that inject explicit attribute priors. To further amplify the influence of these attributes, our Key/Value (K/V) Modulator module then intervenes during the BERT encoding phase, selectively enhancing the Key and Value vectors of the corresponding attribute tokens. In addition, we introduce an attribute-aware contrastive loss to improve discrimination among same-category instances with different attributes during training. Experimental results on the FG-OVD benchmark demonstrate the effectiveness of our method across various mainstream open-vocabulary models.

Decomposed Vision-Language Alignment for Fine-Grained Open-Vocabulary Segmentation

Open-vocabulary segmentation models often struggle to generalize to unseen combinations of object categories and attributes, because fine-grained descriptions are typically encoded as holistic sentences that entangle multiple semantic units. We propose a Decomposed Vision-Language Alignment framework that explicitly factorizes textual prompts into a concept token and multiple attribute tokens, enabling separate cross-modal interactions for each semantic unit. At the feature level, we introduce a Feature-Gated Cross-Attention module that generates attribute-specific gating maps to fuse information in a multiplicative manner, effectively enforcing compositional semantics. At the scoring level, per-token similarities are aggregated in log-space, producing a stable and interpretable compositional matching. The method can be seamlessly integrated into existing transformer-based segmentation architectures and significantly improves generalization to unseen attribute-category compositions in fine-grained open-vocabulary segmentation benchmarks.

Fine-Grained Open-Vocabulary Object Detection with Fined-Grained Prompts: Task, Dataset and Benchmark

Open-vocabulary detectors are proposed to locate and recognize objects in novel classes. However, variations in vision-aware language vocabulary data used for open-vocabulary learning can lead to unfair and unreliable evaluations. Recent evaluation methods have attempted to address this issue by incorporating object properties or adding locations and characteristics to the captions. Nevertheless, since these properties and locations depend on the specific details of the images instead of classes, detectors can not make accurate predictions without precise descriptions provided through human annotation. This paper introduces 3F-OVD, a novel task that extends supervised fine-grained object detection to the open-vocabulary setting. Our task is intuitive and challenging, requiring a deep understanding of Fine-grained captions and careful attention to Fine-grained details in images in order to accurately detect Fine-grained objects. Additionally, due to the scarcity of qualified fine-grained object detection datasets, we have created a new dataset, NEU-171K, tailored for both supervised and open-vocabulary settings. We benchmark state-of-the-art object detectors on our dataset for both settings. Furthermore, we propose a simple yet effective post-processing technique. DetRefiner: Model-Agnostic Detection Refinement with Feature Fusion Transformer

Open-vocabulary object detection (OVOD) aims to detect both seen and unseen categories, yet existing methods often struggle to generalize to novel objects due to limited integration of global and local contextual cues. We propose DetRefiner, a simple yet effective plug-and-play framework that learns to fuse global and local features to refine open-vocabulary detection. DetRefiner processes global image features and patch-level image features from foundational models (e.g., DINOv3) through a lightweight Transformer encoder. The encoder produces a class vector capturing image-level attributes and patch vectors representing local region attributes, from which attribute reliability is inferred to recalibrate the base model's confidence. Notably, DetRefiner is trained independently of the base OVOD model, requiring neither access to its internal features nor retraining. At inference, it operates solely on the base detector's predictions, producing auxiliary calibration scores that are merged with the base detector's scores to yield the final refined confidence. Despite this simplicity, DetRefiner consistently enhances multiple OVOD models across COCO, LVIS, ODinW13, and Pascal VOC, achieving gains of up to +10.1 AP on novel categories. These results highlight that learning to fuse global and local representations offers a powerful and general mechanism for advancing open-world object detection.
