Abstract

VLM-based OCR models have become the de facto choice for document parsing, as they can accurately extract page-level elements (e.g., paragraphs within individual pages) together with their bounding boxes and textual content. However, downstream applications such as RAG require coherent document-level information, whereas these models often break cross-page continuity and fail to recover disrupted structures, such as paragraphs and tables truncated by page boundaries. Such relationships are not confined to a single page; instead, they require joint analysis of titles, paragraphs, tables, and images spanning multiple pages. A natural solution is therefore to reuse existing OCR outputs and reconstruct document-level logical structures through post-processing. To this end, we propose MinerU-Popo, a lightweight and universal framework for POst-Processing OCR outputs, which converts page-level results from diverse parsers into coherent document-level structures. MinerU-Popo decomposes the problem into four focused subtasks: text truncation recovery, table truncation recovery, title hierarchy reconstruction, and image-text association. To address these effectively, we build a task-oriented data engine with task-specific input filtering, and use the generated data (30K) to fine-tune a lightweight post-processing model (Qwen3-VL-4B). To support long documents, we introduce dynamic chunking with overlap-based synchronization, which aligns chunk-level outputs from the fine-tuned model and preserves global consistency. Finally, we assemble the aligned outputs into a tree-structured document representation, further enriched with node chunking and summaries for downstream retrieval and analysis. Empirical results show MinerU-Popo improves title-hierarchy TEDS by at least 20% across all five tested OCR models, improves RAG accuracy and reduces per-query latency.

OvisOCR2 Technical Report

We introduce OvisOCR2, a 0.8B document parsing model. OvisOCR2 is designed as an end-to-end parser: given a document page image, it generates a Markdown representation in natural reading order, covering text, formulas, tables, and visual regions. We build a data engine that combines filtered real-document annotations with synthetic pages whose rendered images and Markdown targets are derived from the same HTML source. The training recipe includes supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning on a 4B branch with a multi-component reward design, on-policy distillation into the 0.8B model, and model fusion. On OmniDocBench v1.6, OvisOCR2 achieves a state-of-the-art overall score of 96.58, placing an end-to-end model at the top of this leaderboard previously dominated by pipeline methods and highlighting the potential of end-to-end document parsing. On PureDocBench, OvisOCR2 also achieves the highest Avg3 score of 75.06. Beyond these two public benchmarks, we evaluate OvisOCR2 on an in-house benchmark designed to cover a broader set of long-tail and challenging scenarios. OvisOCR2 obtains the best overall performance among the compared methods, providing further evidence of its generalization and robustness. M3DocDep: Multi-modal, Multi-page, Multi-document Dependency Chunking with Large Vision-Language Models

In long, multi-page industrial documents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) depends heavily on whether chunk boundaries follow the document's true structure. Existing text-centric chunkers and generative hierarchy parsers often miss cross-page parent-child relations, figure/table-caption bindings, and boundary cues, which leads to fragmented or redundant chunks and degrades both retrieval and answer quality. We propose M3DocDep, an LVLM-based pipeline that first recovers block-level dependencies and then constructs chunks along the recovered document tree. The pipeline uses SharedDet as a common DP+OCR preprocessing layer, extracts multimodal block embeddings with boundary-aware SoftROI pooling, scores candidate parent-child edges with a biaffine head, decodes a globally valid dependency tree with MST constraints, and builds tree-guided chunks annotated with section paths and page ranges. Under a shared-block evaluation protocol, M3DocDep improves STEDS by +28.5 to +39.6 percent on DHP benchmarks, retrieval nDCG by +1.1 to +15.3 percent, and QA ANLS by +4.5 to +15.3 percent on corpus-level RAG benchmarks. These results show that recovering document dependencies before chunking yields more coherent retrieval units for long, multi-page multimodal documents.

PaddleOCR-VL-1.6: Expanding the Frontier of Document Parsing with Under-Optimized Region Refinement and Progressive Post-Training

We introduce PaddleOCR-VL-1.6, an upgraded compact document parsing model built upon PaddleOCR-VL-1.5. Although PaddleOCR-VL-1.5 establishes a strong 0.9B baseline, its remaining errors concentrate in under-optimized regions where model behavior is unstable, data coverage is sparse, or supervision is unreliable. Rather than expanding the training corpus indiscriminately, PaddleOCR-VL-1.6 introduces a region-aware data optimization framework that identifies weak regions from the previous model, applies targeted enhancement to these regions, and improves the reliability of supervision signals. It further adopts a progressive post-training recipe based on curated data selection and reinforcement learning, pushing model performance to a higher level through staged optimization. PaddleOCR-VL-1.6 achieves a new state-of-the-art score of 96.33% on OmniDocBench v1.6, demonstrates strong competitiveness against top-tier VLMs, and provides a practical post-training recipe for the PaddleOCR-VL series.
