STREAM: A Data-Centric Framework for Mining High-Value Task-Oriented Dialogues from Streaming Media

Abstract

Large language models for vertical domains are bottlenecked by the scarcity of complex, domain-specific task-oriented dialogues. Existing data acquisition pipelines face a persistent trilemma: expert annotation is expensive, real-world service conversations are constrained by privacy and commercial restrictions, and static corpora quickly become temporally stale. We propose Stream, a data-centric framework that leverages publicly available streaming media (live streams and short videos) to synthesize high-value service dialogues at scale. Stream mines authentic interaction signals from noisy streams and synthesizes conversations by integrating role-grounded persona construction with Conversational Blueprint construction; it further adopts retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to support knowledge-aware responses. Based on Stream, we release StreamDial, a large-scale multi-domain dataset covering Automotive, Restaurant, and Hotel. StreamDial contains 87,498 dialogue sessions and 1,497,320 turns in total, with an average of 17.11 turns per session and a comparable scale across domains. Each session is organized as a structured quadruplet Pu,Pa,B,H\langle P_u, P_a, B, H \rangle that pairs dialogue history with explicit user/agent personas and a Conversational Blueprint, capturing realistic service behaviors such as requirement mining, constraint conflicts, negotiation, and recovery. Evaluations with automatic judges and downstream tasks show that StreamDial improves intrinsic dialogue quality over strong baselines, and models trained with StreamDial improve Dialogue State Tracking across backbones; we further report a completed human-evaluation set and encouraging multilingual transfer on Qwen3-8B under a controlled training budget. DuplexDrama: A Synthesized Dialogue Dataset with Scenarios, Full-Duplex Behaviors, Expressive Speech, and Sound Events

We present DuplexDrama, the first synthesized spoken dialogue dataset that simultaneously covers four dimensions: (i) complete persona and scenario settings; (ii) three full-duplex behaviors (interruption, backchannel, incomplete); (iii) expressive speech with persona-aligned emotion labels; and (iv) script-aware sound events. DuplexDrama is built via a 4-stage pipeline; quality validation on both scripts and synthesized audio confirms its quality. We have produced more than 2,000 hours audio data with a 64-voice timbre pool spanning 13 personas and 5 age buckets; 3.8% of all turns carry at least one full-duplex behavior. This data has been validated through internal full-duplex model training. We will release a curated subset of 6,400 bilingual dialogues (800 h, Chinese ~500 h + English ~300 h) to advance full-duplex spoken dialogue model research. Data samples are available at our demo page and LLM-judge evaluation prompts will be released with the dataset.

Dial HEALTHDIAL for Advice: A Multilingual and Multi-Parallel Spoken Dialogue Dataset for Knowledge-Grounded Information Seeking

Creating spoken dialogue datasets is methodologically challenging, and these challenges are amplified when the goal is to build multilingual, multi-parallel datasets at scale. This work introduces HEALTHDIAL, a large-scale, multilingual, and multi-parallel dataset for developing and evaluating retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)-based spoken dialogue systems. The dataset comprises 6,000 information-seeking dialogues (1,500 per language) grounded in trusted content from the World Health Organization (WHO) and 163 hours of user speech recorded from native speakers of diverse dialects across four official WHO languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, and Spanish. Each speaker is annotated with demographic (e.g., gender, age) and sociolinguistic (e.g., primary language, region of origin) variables. We report benchmark results across key dialogue tasks, which reveal consistent performance disparities across languages, even among high-resource ones. To support future research, we release the dataset, a prototype system, and a toolkit for data collection and system evaluation.

TalkFa: A Unified Benchmark for Farsi Dialogue Generation and Understanding

Farsi, spoken by more than 120 million people, lacks a comprehensive benchmark for dialogue generation and understanding. We introduce TALKFA, a unified benchmark comprising three complementary datasets: (1) WIKI-FADIAL, 4.2K Wikipedia-grounded dialogues for knowledge-grounded generation; (2) DAILYDIALOG-FA, 6.6K dialogues annotated for dialogue acts and emotions; and (3) PLAYDIAL-FA, 2.1K theatrical dialogues with sentiment labels. While LLMs assist data construction, every dialogue undergoes multi-stage review and revision by native Farsi speakers, and only the final human-approved dialogues are released. Experiments with six LLAMA and MISTRAL models show that LoRA substantially improves dialogue generation while requiring only 25-50% of the training data to recover over 90% of the final performance gains. Across classification tasks, FABERT achieves the best dialogue-act performance, LORA-MISTRAL-7B performs best on emotion recognition, and MISTRAL-24B achieves the highest sentiment score. Human evaluation and independent external validation demonstrate the reliability of the benchmark, while comparisons with GPT-4.1 as an LLM judge reveal that automatic metrics substantially overestimate dialogue quality. Zero-shot evaluation with frontier LLMs further shows that TalkFa remains a challenging benchmark. We will release all datasets, annotation guidelines, code, and checkpoints.
