Abstract

Audio-driven 3D facial animation aims to generate synchronized lip movements and vivid facial expressions from arbitrary audio clips. While existing methods can produce synchronized lip motions, they often rely on predefined identity or style latent features, which limits users' ability to freely control speaking styles. Moreover, applying a fixed style or identity to an entire audio segment typically results in facial animation styles that do not adapt to the emotional content of the audio. To address these challenges, we revisit the entanglement between style and emotion, construct a large-scale dataset with textual descriptions of both style and emotion, and propose a novel talking head generation framework that enables separate control over style and emotion. Our model takes as input both textual descriptions of speaking style and character emotion, as well as the driving audio stream, enabling real-time generation of highly synchronized lip movements and facial expressions that match the provided descriptions. Furthermore, our model supports dynamic emotion control during inference, allowing it to handle scenarios where the target emotion changes throughout the speech.

KM-Speaker: Keypoint-Based Style Control for High-Quality Speech-Driven 3D Facial Animation and Dialogue Localization

Speech-driven 3D facial animation methods face significant challenges in simultaneously achieving high-fidelity motion and precise artistic control at production quality. Existing controllable models typically learn global style control by relying on large-scale, low-quality \emph{in-the-wild} datasets that compromise overall animation realism. Furthermore, these frameworks often lack the fine-grained temporal precision required for demanding tasks such as dialogue localization (e.g., dubbing), where matching specific facial expressions is as critical as lip synchronization. We present KM-Speaker (Keypoint-Matching Speaker), a novel keypoint-conditioned flow-based generative framework that provides both global style guidance and frame-level temporal control from reference performances. We propose a disentanglement strategy that separates audio-driven lip motion from keypoint-driven upper-face dynamics, together with a global style context preservation mechanism to ensure coherent full-face expressiveness. KM-Speaker advances example-based 3D facial animation by achieving high-fidelity motion and flexible controllability in a data-constrained setting, consistently outperforming state-of-the-art methods in lip-sync accuracy, style adherence, and expressive temporal control.

AudioFace: Language-Assisted Speech-Driven Facial Animation with Multimodal Language Models

Speech-driven facial animation requires accurate correspondence between acoustic signals and facial motion, especially for articulation-related mouth movements. However, directly mapping speech audio to facial coefficients often overlooks the linguistic and phonetic structure underlying speech production. In this paper, we propose AudioFace, a language-assisted framework for speech-driven blendshape generation that treats mouth-related facial coefficient prediction as a structured generation problem guided by linguistic and articulatory information. Instead of relying solely on acoustic features, our method leverages the prior knowledge of multimodal large language models and introduces transcript- and phoneme-level cues to bridge speech signals with interpretable facial actions. Extensive experiments show that AudioFace achieves superior performance across multiple evaluation metrics, validating the effectiveness of language-assisted and multimodal-prior-guided speech-driven facial animation.

EmoZone-Talker: Regional Semantic Control of Audio-Driven 3DGS Talking Heads via Facial Action Units

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has shown strong potential for high-fidelity talking head synthesis. However, enabling fine-grained, interpretable, and editable facial expression control remains fundamentally challenging due to intrinsic conflicts between speech-driven facial dynamics and explicit expression signals. Existing methods rely on implicit multimodal fusion, leading to spatial entanglement and temporal instability. We present EmoZone-Talker, a novel framework that reformulates audio-driven facial animation as a structured spatial-temporal coordination problem under cross-modal conflicts. Our approach introduces an explicit spatial disentanglement and temporal dynamics modeling of facial motion. Specifically, we propose Synergy Zones with Prioritized Attention Bias (SZ-PAB) to explicitly decouple modality contributions via region-wise constraints guided by anatomical priors, and a Channel-Independent Temporal AU Encoder (CIT-AE) to model temporally coherent AU dynamics. By integrating these representations into 3D Gaussian deformation, EmoZone-Talker enables precise and interpretable control over facial expressions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method improves expression controllability and realism, with notable gains in upper-face accuracy and temporal coherence, while preserving high rendering quality and accurate lip synchronization. Code will be publicly released to facilitate reproducibility and further research.
