Automated IEP Generation from Traditional Chinese Parent-Teacher Interviews via Corpus-Grounded Feature Diffusion

Abstract

Writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) is a high-labor, knowledge-intensive document burden; English-language research has demonstrated that generative AI can significantly reduce drafting time, yet automated IEP generation in Traditional Chinese remains virtually unexplored due to domain data scarcity, strict privacy regulations, and the absence of local evaluation benchmarks. We propose a low-resource fine-tuning pipeline centered on Corpus-Grounded Feature Diffusion (CGFD): (1) 25 dual-expert high-score seed transcripts are selected via a tau threshold with flag-aware score caps; (2) a FeatureProfile (sentence length, structure, quantification templates) is extracted from seeds and injected into LLM prompts alongside Verbalized-Sampling-style diversity control to drive diffusion; (3) 15 expert gold seeds are used as diffusion anchors, targeting 585 samples; 567 valid diffusion samples are obtained, yielding a 582-sample training set used to fine-tune Breeze-7B with QLoRA; (4) schema-constrained inference via Grammar-Constrained Decoding (GCD) enforces a hierarchical SMART Goal Ladder schema at inference time. Ablation results on a 55-sample schema stress set reveal an unexpected finding: GCD is counterproductive under Traditional Chinese token budgets -- the no-GCD path achieves 100% schema pass rate at 34% lower median latency, outperforming GCD on both reliability and speed. On the n=10 formal hold-out, the no-GCD inference path achieves BERTScore F1 = 0.779, exceeding GPT-5.4 (0.726), DeepSeek-V3.2 (0.703), Gemini-3-Flash-Preview (0.703), and Llama-4-Maverick (0.700) zero-shot baselines while maintaining fully local, air-gapped inference. This system addresses a gap in Traditional Chinese special-education NLP and offers a scalable, privacy-preserving local inference solution under an industrial engineering paradigm.

Pangu-ACE: Adaptive Cascaded Experts for Educational Response Generation on EduBench

Educational assistants should spend more computation only when the task needs it. This paper rewrites our earlier draft around the system that was actually implemented and archived in the repository: a sample-level 1B to 7B cascade for the shared-8 EduBench benchmark. The final system, Pangu-ACE, uses a 1B tutor-router to produce a draft answer plus routing signals, then either accepts the draft or escalates the sample to a 7B specialist prompt. We also correct a major offline evaluation bug: earlier summaries over-credited some open-form outputs that only satisfied superficial format checks. After CPU-side rescoring from saved prediction JSONL, the full Chinese test archive (7013 samples) shows that cascade_final improves deterministic quality from 0.457 to 0.538 and format validity from 0.707 to 0.866 over the legacy rule_v2 system while accepting 19.7% of requests directly at 1B. Routing is strongly task dependent: IP is accepted by 1B 78.0% of the time, while QG and EC still escalate almost always. The current archived deployment does not yet show latency gains, so the defensible efficiency story is routing selectivity rather than wall-clock speedup. We also package a reproducible artifact-first paper workflow and clarify the remaining external-baseline gap: GPT-5.4 re-judging is implemented locally, but the configured provider endpoint and key are invalid, so final sampled-baseline alignment with GPT-5.4 remains pending infrastructure repair.

Controllable Spoken Dialogue Generation: An LLM-Driven Grading System for K-12 Non-Native English Learners

Large language models (LLMs) often fail to meet the pedagogical needs of K-12 English learners in non-native contexts due to a proficiency mismatch. To address this widespread challenge, we introduce a proficiency-aligned framework that adapts LLM outputs to learner abilities, using China's national curriculum (CSE) as a representative case. Our framework enables precise control over lexical complexity through a four-tier grading system, supported by a comprehensive suite of new resources: graded vocabulary lists and a multi-turn dialogue corpus. Our core technical contribution is the \textbf{DDPO} algorithm,Diversity Driven Policy Optimization, a multi-turn GRPO-based approach designed to preserve dialogue diversity while holistically optimizing dialogue quality. This method significantly outperforms conventional approaches, achieving low out-of-vocabulary rates and high diversity while enhancing conversational naturalness and pedagogical value. While grounded in the CSE, our framework is designed for flexibility and can be readily adapted to other educational standards. Our models, data, and code will all be open-sourced, providing a scalable platform for personalized English speaking practice that effectively addresses the unique challenges faced by K-12 learners in non-immersive environments.

LessonBench-V1: A Benchmark Dataset for Evaluating AI Lesson Generation Agents

Large Language Model (LLM) based AI educational content generation systems are increasingly being developed, yet no standardised benchmark exists to systematically evaluate them. This study introduces LessonBench-V1, a benchmark dataset comprising 647 human-written lessons paired with LLM-based reverse-engineered lesson plans across 240 STEM topics spanning mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer science. The lessons are drawn from 97 trusted open sources, including LibreTexts, Brilliant.org and GeeksForGeeks. Each lesson plan is human-reviewed and produced through a pedagogically grounded methodology that synthesises Bloom's Taxonomy, Gagné's Events, Merrill's First Principles, and the 5E Instructional Model. The lesson plans capture 3,620 learning objectives with pedagogical metadata, enabling systematic, reproducible evaluation of lesson-generation AI agents and supporting further research. The study further proposes a three-dimensional evaluation pipeline for use with the dataset.
