Abstract

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a promising method for high-quality, real-time 3D reconstruction. To associate 3DGS with mesh representations, existing methods primarily focus on 3DGS-to-mesh reconstruction from multi-view images. In contrast, the problem of converting a mesh into 3DGS has received comparatively less attention. Instead of relying on heuristic strategies that bind 3D Gaussians to the mesh, we propose a novel white-box 3DGS construction framework, termed Mesh2GS, which generates 3DGS directly from mesh geometry based on plenoptic sampling theory, achieving Nyquist-level performance for high-quality global illumination rendering. Firstly, we propose a plenoptic sampling guided 3DGS construction strategy that theoretically derives the minimum sampling rate of the sampled views and the distribution of 3D Gaussians. Second, we propose a novel 3DGS update procedure with albedo--shading decomposition for efficient global-illumination capture. Finally, we introduce a neural illumination enhancement module to handle non-Lambertian effects. Experimental results demonstrate that our method surpasses state-of-the-art baselines and is practically effective for both real-time shared rendering and non-Lambertian effects capturing specular highlights. The project code will be released upon acceptance.

QuerySplat: Decoupling Geometry and Appearance Representations in 3DGS Prediction

While feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables efficient 3D reconstruction, achieving high-fidelity rendering remains challenging. Existing pixel-aligned approaches suffer from spatial inflexibility and massive structural redundancy, whereas query-based methods lack 3D priors and entangle geometry with appearance, yielding blurry, pose-dependent results. To overcome these deficiencies, we propose \textbf{QuerySplat}, a feed-forward 3DGS framework driven by geometric priors and explicit appearance decoupling. Specifically, we design a dual-branch query-based decoder: the geometry branch leverages a pretrained Vision Geometric Model for spatial understanding, which intrinsically endows QuerySplat with pose-free modeling capabilities, while the appearance branch recovers high-frequency details through a dedicated pathway separated from geometric attribute regression. Extensive experiments demonstrate that QuerySplat mitigates the blurry rendering issues of early query-based models and consistently outperforms pixel-aligned approaches in rendering fidelity. On the challenging DL3DV benchmark, it achieves state-of-the-art novel view synthesis performance, with average PSNR gains of 2.30 dB and 1.04 dB over the best pose-free and pose-required baselines, respectively. 3DGS^3: Joint Super Sampling and Frame Interpolation for Real-Time Large-Scale 3DGS Rendering

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables high-quality real-time 3D rendering but faces challenges in efficiently scaling to ultra-dense scenes and high-resolution due to computational bottlenecks that limit its use in latency-sensitive applications. Instead of optimizing the splatting pipeline itself, we propose \textbf{3DGS3^3}, a unified post-rendering framework that jointly performs super sampling and frame interpolation through differentiable processing of low-resolution outputs to achieve both high-resolution and high-frame-rate rendering. Our \textbf{Gradient- -Aware Super Sampling (GASS)} module leverages the continuous differentiability of 3DGS to extract image gradients that guide a GRU-based refinement network to enable high-fidelity super sampling. Furthermore, a \textbf{Lightweight Temporal Frame Interpolation (LTFI)} module based on a compact U-Net-like backbone fuses temporal and differentiable spatial cues from consecutive frames to synthesize temporally coherent intermediate frames. Experiments on public datasets demonstrate that 3DGS3^3 achieves superior rendering efficiency and visual quality when compared with state-of-the-art methods and remains compatible with existing 3DGS acceleration techniques. The code will be publicly released upon acceptance.

Beyond Heuristics: Learnable Density Control for 3D Gaussian Splatting

While 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has demonstrated impressive real-time rendering performance, its efficacy remains constrained by a reliance on heuristic density control. Despite numerous refinements to these handcrafted rules, such methods inherently lack the flexibility to adapt to diverse scenes with complex geometries. In this paper, we propose a paradigm shift for density control from rigid heuristics to fully learnable policies. Specifically, we introduce \textbf{LeGS}, a framework that reformulates density control as a parameterized policy network optimized via Reinforcement Learning (RL). Central to our approach is the tailored effective reward function grounded in sensitivity analysis, which precisely quantifies the marginal contribution of individual Gaussians to reconstruction quality. To maintain computational tractability, we derive a closed-form solution that reduces the complexity of reward calculation from O(N2)O(N^2) to O(N)O(N). Extensive experiments on the Mip-NeRF 360, Tanks & Temples, and Deep Blending datasets demonstrate that \textbf{LeGS} significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods, striking a superior balance between reconstruction quality and efficiency.
