Abstract

Close-up rendering, zooming into a scene well beyond any training camera, is important for virtual production and interactive 3D content, yet remains an open challenge. 3D Gaussian splatting (3DGS) enables high-fidelity, real-time novel view synthesis, but its rendering quality degrades at close range. Recent diffusion-based methods that enhance the rendering by conditioning on reference images from the training set produce significant artifacts in this setting. We analyze this failure and identify its root cause: the scale gap between the close-up and reference views. We show that the features in reference-conditioned enhancement models are not scale-invariant, causing cross-view attention to retrieve incorrect correspondences when the same content appears at different scales, and that this mismatch cannot be corrected in latent space because the VAE encoder is not scale-equivariant. Building on this analysis we introduce MACRO, Multi-plane Attention for Closeup Render Optimization, a training-free method for high-quality close-up novel view synthesis from 3DGS. MACRO resolves the scale gap by leveraging the scene's known 3D structure: it decomposes the close-up into depth planes, crops and resizes references in image space to match the scale of each plane before encoding, and applies a depth-aware attention mask so each token attends only to scale-matched references. The method requires no architectural changes or additional training. We further contribute two new close-up novel view synthesis benchmarks, the first standardized evaluation protocol for this setting, and demonstrate state-of-the-art results on both, outperforming existing 3DGS and diffusion-based methods on both reconstruction and perceptual metrics. MAC-Splat: Multi-Attribute Consistency for High-Fidelity Sparse-View Reconstruction

Reconstructing high-fidelity 3D scenes from sparse-views remains a central problem in generalizable neural rendering. Existing generalizable 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) methods often exhibit geometric artifacts in sparse-view settings, since supervision based solely on 2D photometric losses cannot resolve depth and correspondence ambiguities. To address this issue, we propose MAC-Splat, a training framework built around direct 3D consistency supervision. MAC-Splat builds on the MASt3R geometric backbone and a frozen DINOv3 encoder to obtain semantically informed 2D correspondences, which serve as geometric anchors for 3D supervision. Using these anchors, we define the Multi-Attribute Consistency (MAC) loss. This objective jointly regularizes the 3D attributes of matched Gaussians, including their position, shape, and appearance, by enforcing agreement in a common world coordinate frame. The formulation is robust to outliers and respects the geometry of covariance matrices, which leads to stable training under sparse-view conditions. Experiments on ScanNet++ show that MAC-Splat outperforms strong baselines, with particularly large gains under different overlap regimes. In particular, it improves average PSNR over Splatt3R by more than 4.5 dB, reduces LPIPS, and maintains performance as the camera pose gap increases. These results indicate that a direct, multi-attribute 3D consistency objective, when combined with high-quality correspondences, is effective for addressing the ill-posed sparse-view reconstruction problem.

GeoQuery: Geometry-Query Diffusion for Sparse-View Reconstruction

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a prominent paradigm for 3D reconstruction and novel view synthesis. However, it remains vulnerable to severe artifacts when trained under sparse-view constraints. While recent methods attempt to rectify artifacts in rendered views using image diffusion models, they typically rely on multi-view self-attention to retrieve information from reference images. We observe that this mechanism often fails when the rendered novel views output by 3DGS are heavily corrupted: damaged query features lead to erroneous cross-view retrieval, resulting in inconsistent rendering refinement. To address this, we propose GeoQuery, a geometry-guided diffusion framework that integrates generative priors with explicit geometric cues via a novel Geometry-guided Cross-view Attention (GCA) mechanism. First, by leveraging predicted depth maps and camera poses, we construct a geometry-induced correspondence field to sample reference features, forming a geometry-aligned proxy query that replaces the corrupted rendering features. Furthermore, we design a new cross-view feature aggregation pipeline, in which we restrict the cross-view attention to a local window around each proxy query to effectively retrieve useful features while suppressing spurious matches. GeoQuery can be seamlessly integrated into existing diffusion-based pipelines, enabling robust reconstruction even under extreme view sparsity. Extensive experiments on sparse-view novel view synthesis and rendering artifact removal demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

DualDiff3D: Dual Structure-Appearance Diffusion Priors for Reliability-Enhanced 3D Gaussian Splatting

While 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has revolutionized 3D reconstruction and novel-view synthesis, scenarios with limited input views often lead to poor reconstruction quality and artifacts in rendered novel views. Recent efforts attempt to utilize powerful diffusion priors, yet they typically process rendered and reference views concatenated along an additional dimension in a single network. These methods overlook an inherent nature that different views should maintain appearance similarity but differ in structure due to view shifts, leading to blur caused by conflicts between the two properties. In this paper, we propose DualDiff, a novel pipeline that leverages dual diffusion priors with a Structure-Appearance Attention (SAA) module to introduce reference guidance for refining low-quality novel views rendered from flawed 3D representations. Specifically, we retain one diffusion branch to focus on extracting structural information from the low-quality novel views, while introducing another branch to ensure appearance consistency with reference views. Furthermore, we present a 3D reconstruction framework named DualDiff3D, which integrates a reliability-enhanced Render-Refine-Optimize (RRO) loop to progressively and robustly incorporate the refined novel views, yielding more accurate 3DGS. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods even in the inference-only setting, with further performance gains achievable through training.
