Abstract

Recent text-to-CAD approaches have shown promising results by leveraging large language models, but they often struggle with maintaining structural consistency in complex designs and accurately grounding geometric parameters. To address these issues, we propose HierCAD, a hierarchical text-to-CAD framework that improves both structural reasoning and parameter prediction. HierCAD reformulates CAD generation as progressive reasoning by decomposing CAD construction trees into object-level procedural reasoning and part-level topology reasoning trajectories. To further improve generation fidelity, we introduce a unified Structure Alignment and Parameter Grounding (SAPG) learning strategy. Structure alignment aligns topology reasoning trajectories with their corresponding parametric CAD spans, while parameter grounding mitigates shortcut learning through structure-preserving parameter perturbations and ranking-based supervision. Experiments demonstrate that HierCAD outperforms prior state-of-the-art methods on both CAD sequence generation and reconstructed CAD model evaluation. Arko-T: A Foundation Model for Text-to-Structured 3D Generation

Text-to-3D systems can now synthesize a model from a single sentence, yet the result is a shape to render, not a design to edit. We present Arko-T, a 4B-parameter text-to-design model that maps natural-language intent directly into executable, parametric CAD programs. Rather than optimizing for code executability alone, Arko-T aligns every stage of the pipeline to a formal notion of design state, so that data curation, code normalization, and execution-grounded supervision all work to preserve the features, parameters, and construction logic that make a CAD artifact editable. Benchmarked against seven frontier LLMs across 12 metrics, Arko-T attains the best score on 8 and the second-best on 3 more, at roughly one-tenth the per-benchmark cost. The results suggest that targeted design-level training at moderate scale can match frontier general-purpose models on structured CAD generation.

Text-to-CAD Retrieval: a Strong Baseline

Text-based retrieval of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models is a critical yet underexplored task for the reuse of legacy industrial designs. Existing CAD repositories are typically searched using filenames or directories, which limits the efficiency, scalability, and accuracy of design retrieval. In this paper, we formally introduce text-to-CAD retrieval as a new cross-modal retrieval task, aiming to retrieve semantically relevant CAD models from large-scale databases given natural language queries. Leveraging paired text-CAD annotations from the Text2CAD dataset, we establish a practical benchmark for this task. To achieve text-based retrieval, we propose a unified framework that learns multi-modal CAD embeddings from both procedural sequences and geometric point clouds. Specifically, a sequence encoder captures the construction logic of CAD models, while a point encoder extracts explicit geometric features. A text encoder is used to learn semantic representations of textual queries. During training, we introduce a novel feature decoder that reconstructs masked sequence features via cross-attention with text and point features, encouraging implicit multi-modal alignment. At inference time, we remove this auxiliary decoder to enable efficient retrieval using concatenated sequence-point features. Our framework serves as a strong baseline for text-to-CAD retrieval and lays the foundation for downstream CAD generation paradigms, such as retrieval-augmented generation. The source code will be released.

Pointer-CAD v2: Plan-Then-Construct CAD Generation with Dimension-Aware Parametric Precision

Computer-aided design (CAD) plays a fundamental role in modern manufacturing by providing the high precision required for industrial production. Recent large language model based approaches formulate CAD generation as a sequence prediction problem and have achieved promising results. However, existing methods and evaluation protocols primarily emphasize visual similarity, while overlooking precise geometric parameters and correct metric scale. Small numerical deviations that are negligible at the shape-level may still violate industrial tolerance requirements, a problem further compounded by current autoregressive paradigms that utilize command sequence representations, aggressively quantize numerical parameters to ease LLM prediction. In this work, we present Pointer-CAD v2. Compared with v1 (arXiv:2603.04337), this version directly predicts continuous values, bypassing the need for quantized numerical parameters and thereby eliminating quantization errors. Specifically, we propose a unified framework that decouples parameter reasoning from geometric construction through a Plan-Then-Construct paradigm. Our method first produces a structured design plan with explicit metric scale parameters. These parameters are organized into a dictionary and directly referenced during sequence generation via a pointer mechanism, eliminating discretization errors and ensuring dimensionally consistent execution. In addition, we construct a new large-scale dataset with plan-level annotation and introduce three hierarchical geometry accuracy metrics to evaluate parametric fidelity at the vertex, edge, and face levels. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Pointer-CAD v2 consistently outperforms existing baselines and achieves substantial improvements in geometric accuracy, enabling reliable CAD generation for precision-critical engineering applications.
