ReflexTrack: A Feedback-Driven Agent for Training-Free Referring Video Object Segmentation

Authors: Yuanjia LiTianyang XuTao ZhouZhangyong TangXiao-Jun WuJosef Kittler

Abstract

Referring video object segmentation (RVOS) requires segmenting a target specified by natural language throughout a video. Recent agentic approaches combine multimodal large language models with promptable segmentation models to perform RVOS without task-specific training. However, most pipelines rely on one-shot spatial grounding followed by mask propagation, leaving both the initial prompts and temporal predictions largely unverified. We introduce ReflexTrack, a training-free, feedback-driven agent that closes this loop at both spatial and temporal levels. Mask-guided Spatial Refinement evaluates the mask induced by the current keyframe prompt and iteratively updates the bounding box together with positive and negative points, yielding a more reliable initialization. Video-level Mask Reflection assesses the complete mask sequence, localizes unreliable intervals, selects complementary repair keyframes, and generates candidate predictions through mask-guided re-propagation. Only candidates that provide a verified improvement are used to update the affected intervals, preserving reliable predictions elsewhere. All components remain frozen during inference. ReflexTrack achieves an overall Q\mathcal{Q} score of 69.769.7 on Ref-VPS and a J&F\mathcal{J}\&\mathcal{F} score of 67.267.2 on ReasonVOS. These results demonstrate that prediction-level feedback substantially improves the reliability of training-free RVOS.

AgentRVOS for MeViS-Text Track of 5th PVUW Challenge: 3rd Method

This report describes a Ref-VOS pipeline centered on Sa2VA and organized with explicit agent roles. The key idea is that Sa2VA should provide the first dense semantic hypothesis, while an agent loop decides whether that hypothesis should be accepted, revised, or refined. The pipeline starts with a target-presence judgment stage. If the referred object does not exist in the video, the system directly outputs zero masks. Otherwise, Sa2VA receives the video and referring prompt and produces a coarse mask trajectory over the full video. This trajectory is treated as a semantic prior rather than a final answer. A planner agent decomposes the query, temporal partition agents identify informative blocks, scout agents search for anchor frames, and refinement agents convert reliable Sa2VA masks into boxes and points for SAM3 propagation. A critic scores candidate trajectories, a reflection controller repairs weak hypotheses, and a collaboration controller reconciles multiple agent branches. The result is a Ref-VOS system in which Sa2VA is responsible for dense grounded understanding, while the agent layer handles presence verification, temporal search, confidence-aware revision, and final mask refinement.

Weakly-Supervised Referring Video Object Segmentation through Text Supervision

Referring video object segmentation (RVOS) aims to segment the target instance in a video, referred by a text expression. Conventional approaches are mostly supervised learning, requiring expensive pixel-level mask annotations. To tackle it, weakly-supervised RVOS has recently been proposed to replace mask annotations with bounding boxes or points, which are however still costly and labor-intensive. In this paper, we design a novel weakly-supervised RVOS method, namely WSRVOS, to train the model with only text expressions. Given an input video and the referring expression, we first design a contrastive referring expression augmentation scheme that leverages the captioning capabilities of a multimodal large language model to generate both positive and negative expressions. We extract visual and linguistic features from the input video and generated expressions, then perform bi-directional vision-language feature selection and interaction to enable fine-grained multimodal alignment. Next, we propose an instance-aware expression classification scheme to optimize the model in distinguishing positive from negative expressions. Also, we introduce a positive-prediction fusion strategy to generate high-quality pseudo-masks, which serve as additional supervision to the model. Last, we design a temporal segment ranking constraint such that the overlaps between mask predictions of temporally neighboring frames are required to conform to specific orders. Extensive experiments on four publicly available RVOS datasets, including A2D Sentences, J-HMDB Sentences, Ref-YouTube-VOS, and Ref-DAVIS17, demonstrate the superiority of our method. VideoSEG-O3: A Multi-turn Reinforcement Learning Framework for Reasoning Video Object Segmentation

Reasoning Video Object Segmentation (RVOS) demands a sophisticated integration of temporal dynamics, spatial details, and linguistic reasoning to achieve precise pixel-level localization. Existing methods are limited to reasoning over fixed initial inputs and lack the capacity to actively acquire further visual evidence, which is often essential for resolving complex references in long or intricate videos. To address this, we propose \textbf{VideoSEG-O3}, the first multi-turn reinforcement learning framework for RVOS that emulates the human \textit{``coarse-to-fine''} cognitive process. It employs a \textit{multi-turn temporal-spatial chain-of-thought} to capture fine-grained details by iteratively pinpointing critical intervals and keyframes. Additionally, to enable the policy to perceive segmentation quality beyond mere text probability of \texttt{[SEG]} during the RL stage, we introduce \textit{SEG-aware logit calibration}, which integrates pixel-wise segmentation feedback directly into the token-level logits. Furthermore, we design a \textit{decoupled thinking trace} to hierarchically decompose the reasoning process into temporal, spatial, and linguistic dimensions, and construct \textbf{VTS-CoT}, a specialized cold-start dataset featuring comprehensive reasoning trajectories. The code and models will be released at https://github.com/Dmmm1997/VideoSEG-O3.
