Abstract

Constructing photorealistic Free-Viewpoint Videos (FVVs) of dynamic scenes from a set of posed 2D images has been an intriguing yet challenging task in computer vision. Methods based on neural rendering achieve high-fidelity image quality in FVV construction. However, most of these methods are unable to achieve real-time rendering and often require complete video sequences to train. Despite the existence of some online training methods capable of rendering FVVs in real time, they struggle to meet the requirements for storage and training time for downstream applications. To overcome this problem, we propose Struct-GStream, which can achieve efficient FVV streaming using structured 3D Gaussians (3DGs). Specifically, we introduce dynamic anchor points to generate structured 3DGs to construct basic scenes and model approximate scene movements based on the assumption of local rigidity in object motion. Besides, we introduce a global free 3DGs patching strategy involving free 3DGs' generation, pruning, and optimization to patch and model deficient areas and emerging objects. Our method achieves fast training at low bitrates while maintaining high rendering quality. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Struct-GStream significantly outperforms existing online training methods for FVV construction in terms of training time, storage, and rendering quality while maintaining competitive rendering speed.

DecoGS: Adaptive Static-Dynamic Decoupling of 3D Gaussians for Free-Viewpoint Video Streaming

Streaming 3D reconstruction demands both speed and temporal fidelity, goals that existing methods undermine by updating every Gaussian every frame, even in static regions. We present DecoGS, a method for efficient online training of 3D Gaussians from streaming videos. Unlike prior methods that update the entire scene indiscriminately, DecoGS introduces an adaptive mechanism that selectively focuses optimization on spatiotemporal regions exhibiting motion or photometric changes. This targeted training strategy eliminates redundant updates that cause flickering and drift in nominally static regions, while enabling fast, high-fidelity scene updates. The pipeline further integrates region-aware Gaussian management through gradient gating and efficient visibility filtering to maintain temporal coherence and a compact memory footprint. On N3DV and MeetRoom, DecoGS achieves 34.55 and 31.60 dB PSNR respectively, outperforming all streaming and offline baselines, while rendering at 261 FPS with 70×70\times lower temporal flicker than the best prior method, requiring no large-scale pretraining.

FreeStreamGS: Online Feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting from Unposed Streaming Inputs

Feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) allows efficient and high-fidelity novel view synthesis (NVS) from an offline recorded image sequence. However, achieving online NVS from streaming and unposed image inputs remains challenging. Although online feed-forward geometric estimation methods have been proposed for streaming depth and point cloud recovery, they cannot be adapted to NVS due to severe rendering artifacts. This is because NVS demands stricter multi-view consistency in Gaussian scales and pose-geometry alignment; even minor deviations would accumulate over time and visibly degrade rendering quality. To this end, we propose FreeStreamGS, a robust online feed-forward framework for efficient and high-quality NVS. We introduce two key mechanisms: a Decoupled Intrinsic Recovery Head that removes cumulative camera intrinsic bias and prevents scene scale jitter during long-term streaming, and a Dynamic Point Refinement Offset strategy that relaxes rigid unprojection to correct coupled pose-depth drift. Extensive experiments show that FreeStreamGS achieves rendering quality competitive with state-of-the-art offline feed-forward 3DGS methods, despite operating without access to future frames.

DLGStream: Dynamic Language-embedded Guassian Splatting for Open-vocabulary Enabled Free-viewpoint Video Streaming

3D Gaussian Splatting~(3DGS) has emerged as a promising paradigm for reconstructing streamable free-viewpoint video~(FVV) from multi-view videos. However, 3DGS-based FVVs typically lack user interaction and editing capabilities, which diminishes the immersive experience. Recent research has integrated language features from CLIP into 3DGS via distillation, enabling open-vocabulary queries and supporting many downstream applications. Nevertheless, the stringent requirements of FVV, low frame size and high FPS, make current language Gaussian representations unsuitable for language-embedded FVV. In this paper, we propose DLGStream, a novel language-embedded FVV representation that streams time-varying language features alongside Gaussian attributes to support 4D environment interaction, scene editing, and spatial intelligence. Specifically, we propose a dual-opacity dynamic language Gaussian representation, which maintains two opacity attributes for color and language features to deal with performance degradation that occurs when colors and features are jointly optimized. Furthermore, we introduce an interpolation-based deformation field to reduce temporal redundancy. This deformation field can also be used for 4D frame interpolation, boosting FVV sequences from low to high FPS. Experimental results demonstrate that DLGStream achieves superior performance in both on open-vocabulary segmentation and reconstruction quality with an average frame size of merely 43 KB.
