Abstract

This paper investigates adaptive and resilient dual-layer resource slicing in hovering aerial agent (HAA)-assisted backhaul networks for heterogeneous 5G/6G services, including enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC), and massive machine-type communications (mMTC). To address the complex coupling of this dual-layer architecture in non-stationary environments, we propose the resilient adaptive priority orchestration enhanced twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (RAPO-TD3) framework. We introduce a novel double soft-max projection mechanism to map the continuous action space into physically feasible bandwidth distributions, ensuring strict constraint adherence. Additionally, a resilient adaptive priority orchestration (RAPO) mechanism is embedded to safeguard mission-critical URLLC latency. Crucially, we establish a rigorous mathematical foundation proving that our framework ensures Lipschitz continuity and satisfies the Robbins-Monro conditions for stable asymptotic convergence. Extensive simulations under non-stationary traffic demonstrate that our RAPO-TD3 framework achieves superior performance relative to PPO, DDPG, and traditional solvers. Notably, via the RAPO mechanism, our approach maintains URLLC satisfaction levels closely approaching theoretical optima even during 500% demand surges. Furthermore, scalability evaluations indicate that sub-millisecond execution latencies strictly satisfy the 1 ms URLLC budget, demonstrating the performance efficacy of our proposed framework.

Aerial Multi-Functional RIS in Fluid Antennas-Aided Full-Duplex Networks: A Self-Optimized Hybrid Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach

To address high data traffic demands of sixth-generation (6G) networks, this paper proposes a novel architecture that integrates autonomous aerial vehicles (AAVs) and multi-functional reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (MF-RISs) as AM-RIS in fluid antenna (FA)-assisted full-duplex (FD) networks. The AM-RIS provides hybrid functionalities, including signal reflection, amplification, and energy harvesting (EH), potentially improving both signal coverage and sustainability. Meanwhile, FA facilitates fine-grained spatial adaptability at FD-enabled base station (BS), which complements residual self-interference (SI) suppression. We aim at maximizing the overall energy efficiency (EE) by jointly optimizing transmit DL beamforming at BS, UL user power, configuration of AM-RIS, and positions of the FA and AM-RIS. Owing to the hybrid continuous-discrete parameters and high dimensionality of the intractable problem, we have conceived a self-optimized multi-agent hybrid deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework (SOHRL), which integrates multi-agent deep Q-networks (DQN) and multi-agent proximal policy optimization (PPO), respectively handling discrete and continuous actions. To enhance self-adaptability, an attention-driven state representation and meta-level hyperparameter optimization are incorporated, enabling multi-agents to autonomously adjust learning hyperparameters. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed AM-RIS-enabled FA-aided FD networks empowered by SOHRL algorithm. The results reveal that SOHRL outperforms benchmarks of the case without attention mechanism and conventional hybrid/multi-agent/standalone DRL. Moreover, AM-RIS in FD achieves the highest EE compared to half-duplex, conventional rigid antenna arrays, partial EH, and conventional RIS without amplification, highlighting its potential as a compelling solution for EE-aware wireless networks.

Adversarial Attacks in AI-Driven RAN Slicing: SLA Violations and Recovery

Next-generation (NextG) cellular networks are designed to support emerging applications with diverse data rate and latency requirements, such as immersive multimedia services and large-scale Internet of Things deployments. A key enabling mechanism is radio access network (RAN) slicing, which dynamically partitions radio resources into virtual resource blocks to efficiently serve heterogeneous traffic classes, including enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine-type communications (mMTC), and ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC). In this paper, we study the impact of adversarial attacks on AI-driven RAN slicing decisions, where a budget-constrained adversary selectively jams slice transmissions to bias deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based resource allocation, and quantify the resulting service level agreement (SLA) violations and post-attack recovery behavior. Our results indicate that budget-constrained adversarial jamming can induce severe and slice-dependent steady-state SLA violations. Moreover, the DRL agent's reward converges toward the clean baseline only after a non-negligible recovery period.

Place, Slice and Schedule: Hierarchical O-RAN Control of a Tethered mmWave UAV-gNB

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-mounted 5G New Radio base stations (gNBs) can augment terrestrial networks with an on-demand, repositionable Frequency Range 2 (FR2) capacity layer. This flexibility, however, couples the physical network topology with radio-resource management: UAV movement reshapes blockage, channel quality, and the set of effectively served users, while traffic demand, queues, and service requirements evolve at a much faster timescale. Existing Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN)-enabled UAV studies optimize trajectory, deployment, association, or resource allocation, but typically in isolation, without coordinating slow aerial control with fast per-user scheduling. We instead exploit O-RAN disaggregation, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) monitoring, and multi-timescale RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) control to address this coupling: a Non-Real-Time RIC rApp uses aggregated KPIs and radio-environment context to jointly control tethered UAV placement and the enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB)/Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) slice budget, while a Near-Real-Time RIC xApp allocates per-user resources within that budget. We realize this xApp as a permutation-equivariant DeepSets Soft Actor-Critic (D-SAC) scheduler that treats the users as an unordered set, trained in a Sionna RT ray traced channel. The resulting hierarchical controller improves eMBB SLA satisfaction by up to 17% and URLLC on-time delivery by up to 42% over classical and learned schedulers; the learned rApp further raises URLLC on-time delivery by up to 20% over baselines.
