AV-FlowEdit: Training-Free Prompt-Driven Audio-Visual Editing with Event-Aware Spectral Trajectory Preservation

Authors: Shaohua Pan, Xiao Liu

Abstract

Joint audio-video diffusion models generate synchronized content, but editing existing clips requires target changes without disrupting non-target structure or cross-modal correspondence. We present AV-FlowEdit, a training-free and inversion-free framework for prompt-driven audio-video editing. Our key insight is that source--target flow differences provide both cross-modal editing directions and preservation cues. Under shared perturbations, they jointly update the video and audio branches, supporting visual-only, audio-only, and joint edits while retaining pretrained cross-modal interactions. To suppress drift accumulated during sampling, Cross-Modal Event-Aware Spectral Trajectory Preservation combines flow saliency, aligned audio activity, multiscale low-frequency displacement, and diffusion-stage scheduling. This adaptively preserves unsupported regions while allowing intended audio-visual events. AV-FlowEdit requires no model training, external masks, or optimization-based inversion. Experiments show strong prompt alignment and temporal consistency, together with competitive audio quality and cross-modal coherence.

CrossEdit: Cross-Modal Training Enables Rich Audio-Visual Editing

Multimedia editing requires generative models to interpret complex, compositional instructions and modify only the desired elements across modalities, a capability largely beyond existing systems. Current approaches are typically limited to simple, single-attribute edits within one modality, since diverse, high-quality editing pairs are hard to obtain, especially for cross-modal tasks where aligned audiovisual (AV) data is scarce. We present CrossEdit, a unified omni-modal editing model for images, audio, and video that performs AV movie scene edits zero-shot through cross-modal transfer. Our key observation is that complex instruction-following, once learned in any modality, generalizes to others. We exploit the additive nature of acoustic signals to procedurally generate large-scale audio editing pairs with compositional instructions, and show that fine-tuning on this synthetic data and self-supervised AV masked reconstruction, alongside a targeted set of curated cross-modal tasks, induces instruction-following that transfers zero-shot to unseen modality and instruction combinations. To evaluate this capability, we release CrossEditBench, a human-annotated benchmark of AV edits on movie scenes, and propose AV-FES, a metric that jointly scores instruction following and consistency. We show that our proposed techniques improve performance on zero-shot AV movie scene editing, while maintaining or improving performance on lip-synced speech editing and standard image, video, and audio editing benchmarks. InstructAV2AV: Instruction-Guided Audio-Video Joint Editing

Recent diffusion-based methods have achieved impressive progress in video content manipulation. However, they typically ignore the accompanying audio, leaving the audio disjointed from the edited results. In this paper, we propose InstructAV2AV, the first end-to-end framework for instruction-guided audio-video joint editing. We first develop a scalable data synthesis pipeline and construct InsAVE-80K, the first large-scale audio-video editing dataset with high-quality source-to-target pairs. With this data foundation, we adapt an audio-video generation backbone to leverage its robust priors. We concatenate the audio-video input with noisy latent codes to anchor the source context, propose the source-instruction gated attention to improve instruction following and content preservation, and introduce a two-stage training strategy to effectively transfer these pre-trained priors. Extensive experiments demonstrate that InstructAV2AV outperforms state-of-the-art methods across 11 metrics spanning three aspects on two evaluation sets, highlighting its potential for controllable content creation. Edit in Sync: Unified End-to-End Audio-Visual Editing for Human-Centric Videos

Human-centric audio-visual editing requires precise alignment of lip movements, gestures, and expressions with speech. Existing methods process inputs through independent video and audio pipelines, preventing cross-modal interaction between visual editing and audio dubbing. Many of these pipelines further rely on mask-based inpainting. As a result, they suffer from poor lip-audio synchronization, cumulative pipeline errors, and an inherent mask-size dilemma. We present AVE, the first unified end-to-end framework that jointly performs reference-guided person swapping, insertion, and deletion across both audio and video modalities without requiring spatial masks. To overcome data scarcity, we design a synthesis pipeline and introduce AVE-Dataset, the first audio-visual editing dataset to provide 100K pairs with appearance and voice references. By combining Synthetic-to-Real reconstruction with preliminary audio warm-up, our framework transcends synthetic pipeline limits and mitigates audio-video token imbalance. AVE outperforms modality-separate audio-visual editing pipelines in editing realism, temporal consistency, and audio-visual alignment.
