Abstract

Real-world frontend development requires agents to compose reproduction, generation, modification, and repair over an evolving application state. Learning a general policy for this process requires translating heterogeneous execution feedback into task-aligned rewards and effective credit assignment across long sequences of interdependent actions. We introduce WebCoder, a general frontend development agent trained with artifact-grounded agentic reinforcement learning. Our key idea is to assess diverse development activities through their effects on a shared executable artifact and its satisfaction of task requirements. We build Webdev-World, an executable environment that integrates code editing, application execution, browser inspection, and on-demand skills while preserving project state across interactions. An independent verifier evaluates the final application against task requirements to provide terminal rewards, while changes in intermediate artifact progress redistribute the resulting rollout advantage across development segments. Context compaction and message-tree sample construction support training on trajectories beyond a single context window while avoiding repeated loss computation on shared generated history. We further introduce Webdev-Bench to evaluate composed development requirements within a single project. On Webdev-Bench, WebCoder-27B raises requirement satisfaction from 64.8 for its Qwen3.8-27B base model to 72.8, exceeding Claude-Opus-4.8 (65.1) and GPT-5.4 (59.6); on Vision2Web, it improves the average visual and functional score from 41.1 to 62.4, on par with Claude-Opus-4.8. Ablation studies confirm the contributions of artifact-grounded credit assignment and long-horizon training.

WebUniverse: Scaling Verified Training Data for Agentic Web Development

Training agents for front-end web development requires demonstrations of code editing, execution, browser inspection and revision, yet public trajectories and reusable task environments remain limited. We introduce WebUniverse, a pipeline that constructs verifiable tasks with verified development trajectories from open-source repositories and real web pages. The tasks cover text-grounded application development in standalone and iterative settings and vision-grounded reproduction across pages and viewports. We collect agent trajectories for these tasks and verify the resulting applications against task-specific functional or visual requirements. We release WebUniverse-Env, containing 15K executable task environments, and WebUniverse-Mix, containing the corresponding 15K development trajectories with verification records and scores. Fine-tuning Qwen3.5-35B-A3B on WebUniverse-Mix raises the Vision2Web average score from 51.7 to 68.3, WebGen-Bench accuracy from 34.5% to 63.9%, and Web-Bench pass@2 from 12.2% to 23.1%. The resulting model also outperforms a public-data baseline trained with the same configuration and sample budget across all reported metrics. Ablations show complementary benefits from text and visual trajectories and continued gains as training data scales from 5K to 15K trajectories.

Vision2Web: A Hierarchical Benchmark for Visual Website Development with Agent Verification

Recent advances in large language models have improved the capabilities of coding agents, yet systematic evaluation of complex, end-to-end website development remains limited. To address this gap, we introduce Vision2Web, a hierarchical benchmark for visual website development, spanning from static UI-to-code generation, interactive multi-page frontend reproduction, to long-horizon full-stack website development. The benchmark is constructed from real-world websites and comprises a total of 193 tasks across 16 categories, with 918 prototype images and 1,255 test cases. To support flexible, thorough and reliable evaluation, we propose workflow-based agent verification paradigm based on two complementary components: a GUI agent verifier and a VLM-based judge. We evaluate multiple visual language models instantiated under different coding-agent frameworks, revealing substantial performance gaps at all task levels, with state-of-the-art models still struggling on full-stack development.

WebGrader: Training LLMs for Web Development with Self-Evolving Programmatic Grader

Large language models increasingly generate complete websites from natural-language descriptions, and reinforcement learning has become a central approach to closing their remaining functional gap. This training regime is bottlenecked by reward design. Hand-authored browser scripts are executable yet costly to write for open-ended requirements, while VLM and GUI-agent graders scale but may issue verdicts before observing the decisive state. We propose WebGrader, a self-evolving programmatic grader that autonomously derives the required interaction flows from each website request, represents each flow as an executable Flow Contract, and uses its execution outcome as an RL reward. WebGrader materializes the generated project in a live browser, grounds target actions against the source code and live DOM, and collects visual, DOM, response, and persistent-state evidence along the same browser trajectory. A residual-driven offline loop then discovers reusable verifier skills, screens them on disjoint validation pages, and freezes the promoted skill graph before policy training. By separating test planning, action grounding, evidence collection, and semantic judgment, WebGrader issues a Pass verdict only after observing the requested transition. On WebGen-Bench, WebGrader trains an 8B policy to a 52.01% functional success rate, outperforming a matched appearance-plus-script reward by 7.88 points and surpassing o4-mini and DeepSeek-v4-flash. On WG-core-250, the policy reaches a Full Score of 44.953 and surpasses Qwen3-Coder-480B.
