Abstract

The goal of a world model is to capture the dynamics of an environment. This has the great appeal that it allows agents to plan and simulate a course of actions with the help of a world model. For these uses to be reliable, however, the learned dynamics must behave well beyond the specific state-action combinations observed in expert rollouts. Despite this, the relationship between data coverage, dynamics generalization, and downstream planning performance remains underexplored. We study this relationship through the lens of compositional generalization: can a world model recombine familiar state and action factors into valid dynamics? To answer this, we introduce AnyGoal, a benchmark of goal-shifted task variants built from widely used world-model environments, together with an open-source library. Each task is designed to be within reach of a world model that has learned the underlying dynamics: individual state factors and actions remain within their training support, but their combinations are underrepresented in expert trajectories. Across multiple environments and world model families, we find that current models consistently exhibit failures under these recombinations. By examining dynamics and representation failures across model families, interaction regimes, and evaluation metrics, we study where current world models generalize and where challenges remain for goal-shifted prediction and planning. Together, this framework, benchmark, and analysis provide a basis for evaluating progress toward world models that generalize to new planning tasks.

stable-worldmodel: A Platform for Reproducible World Modeling Research and Evaluation

World models are central to building agents that can reason, plan, and generalize beyond their training data. However, research on world models is currently fragmented, with disparate codebases, data pipelines, and evaluation protocols hindering reproducibility and fair comparison. Current practice is further limited by three key bottlenecks: fragile one-off codebases, slow video data loading, and the lack of standardized generalization benchmarks. We present stable-worldmodel (swm), an open-source platform for standardized and reproducible world modeling research and evaluation. It delivers (1) a high-performance Lance-based data layer with native support and conversion tools for MP4, HDF5, and LeRobot datasets, (2) clean, well-tested implementations of modern world model baselines and planning solvers, and (3) a broad suite of environments and tasks extended with controllable visual, geometric, and physical factors of variation for systematic in-silico evaluation of dynamics understanding, control performance, representation quality, and out-of-distribution generalization. By unifying the full pipeline under a single, scalable framework, swm dramatically reduces research overhead and accelerates trustworthy progress toward reliable world models.

World Action Planner: Generalizable Decision-Making with Action-Conditioned World Models

Building generalizable agents for diverse applications remains a fundamental challenge. While imitation learning-based policies succeed in specific training environments, they often fail to generalize to novel scenes and tasks. In this work, we propose World Action Planner, a robot planning system that leverages the reasoning capabilities of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and the physical grounding of a multi-task pose-image conditioned world model. Our system enables an agent to propose initial action plans and iteratively refine them via optimization and search, reasoning over imagined world model rollouts. We demonstrate that our approach achieves superior performance across compositional tasks, new layouts, and zero-shot generalization scenarios, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art end-to-end policy models such as VLAs and WAMs. Project website at worldactionplanner.github.io

Qwen-AgentWorld: Language World Models for General Agents

A world model predicts environment dynamics based on current observations and actions, serving as a core cognitive mechanism for reasoning and planning. In this work, we investigate how world modeling based on language models can further push the boundaries of general agents. (i) We first focus on building foundation models for agentic environment simulation. We introduce Qwen-AgentWorld-35B-A3B and Qwen-AgentWorld-397B-A17B, the first language world models capable of simulating agentic environments covering 7 domains via long chain-of-thought reasoning. Leveraging more than 10M environment interaction trajectories of 7 domains in real-world environments, we develop Qwen-AgentWorld through a three-stage training pipeline: CPT injects general-purpose world modeling capabilities from the state transition dynamics and augmented professional corpora, SFT activates next-state-prediction reasoning, and RL sharpens simulation fidelity through a tailored framework with hybrid rubric-and-rule rewards. To evaluate language world models, we present AgentWorldBench, a comprehensive benchmark constructed from real-world interactions of 5 frontier models on 9 established benchmarks. Empirical results demonstrate that Qwen-AgentWorld significantly outperforms existing frontier models. (ii) Beyond foundation models, we further investigate two complementary paradigms through which world modeling enhances general agents. First, as a decoupled environment simulator, Qwen-AgentWorld supports scalable and controllable simulation of thousands of real-world environments for agentic RL, yielding gains that surpass real-environment training alone. Second, as a unified agent foundation model, world-model training acts as a highly effective warm-up that improves downstream performance across 7 agentic benchmarks.
